3.6 IDU/ODU Cable Interface

The “Cable” interface is associated to the interconnection cable between IDU and ODU of ALS equipment. It is an internal
interface of the equipment.

The IDU-ODU interconnection cable carries:

- DC power supply from the IDU

- Base-Band data stream to/from IDU (bi-directional, full-duplex data transmission is used on IDU-ODU cable)

Main characteristics of “ODU-CABLE” interface are given in the following.

Type of connection between system components:

1 coaxial cable for unprotected systems

2 coaxial cables for protected systems

Cable Impedance: 50 Ω

Maximum distance between IDU-ODU with ¼” cable: 300 m

Insertion Loss: 24 dB @ 330 MHz

7
Required Cable Return Loss ( ): Better than 22 dB from 100 MHz to 400 MHz

Maximum Total DC Resistance: 4Ω

Tx nominal frequency: 330 MHz

Rx nominal frequency: 140 MHz
