This document contains an analysis of the Airbus A380 aircraft performed by RDS. It includes modules on the design layout, aero performance, propulsion assumptions, weight estimates, and range/sizing calculations. The key findings are that RDS estimates are within 3.6-3.4% of the original piano estimates for operating empty weight, payload, and fuel weight. The range calculated by RDS is 11% shorter than the piano estimate. An efficiency comparison is made of the A380, A340, and B787 which finds the A380 is most efficient with a payload of at least 75% of its maximum. This analysis provides requirements for designing a hydrogen-powered engine.

A380 is the most efficient if payload is at least 75% of the max payload. Under that, other AC have lower SFC but less range. • •Based on this I have the requirements for a H2 engine. Work in progress: H2 engine design • Design based on the requirements of thrust, range and weight defined by piano and RDS in the domain of best efficiency.
