Laura Huggins - Syllabus Classroom Expectations 1
Laura Huggins - Syllabus Classroom Expectations 1
Welcome to the Huggins Middle School Band Program! Included in this document is the
basic information that all students will need for this year including a grade breakdown,
overview of classroom expectations, and my contact information. The final page
includes a space for both the student and the parent/guardian to sign and confirm that
they agree to adhere to the expectations outlined in this syllabus. Please return this to
me by Thursday, September 12.
Grades
Quizzes- 20%
Tests- 35%
Class Participation- 45%
Class Participation grades will be taken on a daily basis and averaged at the end of
the grading term. In order to receive a 100% for the day, the student must:
● Be present and punctual
● Be attentive and actively engaged in rehearsal
● Have all required materials with them including their instrument and required
accessories, their music, and a pencil
Points will be deducted for tardiness, inappropriate behavior, and any missing required
materials.
School-approved excused absences and late arrivals will NOT result in point
deductions.
Students who do not have their instruments in class will receive an alternate written
assignment. This can earn a student up to a 75% for their daily grade.
Communication
Additional updates, copies of forms, and information about our music program can be
accessed on our website (insert URL). I advise students and parents to check this
frequently.
In the event that a student has a planned absence, early dismissal, or late arrival to or
from class, I request that they send an email explaining a minimum of 48 hours prior.
I also encourage students to remind me in person prior to missing their class.
If a student has a planned absence, late arrival, or early dismissal from a dress
rehearsal or concert, they should send an email explaining the situation as soon as
they are aware of the conflict. I will likely request a follow up meeting or phone
conference with both the student and the parent or guardian to determine if the absence
may be excused and to provide a make-up assignment.
