Asepsis is such an important part of any healthcare career!

Keeping our patients safe from cross

contamination is something that I do not take lightly. Going through the dental assisting program

really opened my eyes to how much thought needs to go into keeping yourself and others safe

when working. From the moment I took a fundamentals class about asepsis, I started to always

consciously think about the spread of diseases. Providing the standard of care includes,

maintaining a sterile field, having proper barrier protection, and sterilization of instruments. I

have included my asepsis proficiency in this section. This was a very important proficiency for

all of us students to complete. It was necessary to make sure we were all competent in the

practices of asepsis during unit preparation and tear down. I have learned in school that every

patient is to be treated the same. Taking the extra lengths to protect your space and patients is a

crucial daily practice.
