Assignment No. 1

I. Objectives
a. Provide a hazard analysis on specific chemical use in the workplace.
b. Provide action to be taken while working in the laboratory.

II. Materials
a. video attached
b. paper and pen

III. Introduction

A hazard analysis is used as the first step in a process used to assess risk. The result of a
hazard analysis is the identification of different types of hazards. A hazard is a potential condition that exists
or not. It is defined as the process of collecting and interpreting information on hazards and conditions
leading to their presence to decide which are significant for safety. The goal of hazard analysis is to find
ways to minimize the chance of injury, loss or harm while you are working on your project.

Material safety data sheet is a document that provides workers with procedures for safety
handling or working with particular substance. This requires that the chemical manufacturer, importer, or
distributor provide a SDS for hazardous chemicals in order to effectively communicate information about
the hazards of the particular chemical that is being used or handled.

Globally harmonized system is a system of a hazard communication for chemical hazards that
can be adopted by countries around the world. This requires that the chemical manufacturer, importer, or
distributor provide a SDS for hazardous chemicals in order to effectively communicate information about
the hazards of the particular chemical that is being used or handled

The laboratory environment is hazardous by nature. The actual risk is determined by the
workers. It is everyone’s responsibility to know and follow the rules and regulations in the laboratory. This
leads to the production of accurate and quality data that can be used in the development of drugs to prevent and
fight casualties. The first consideration is proper dress. It can prevent fatal injuries and can protect you from
harm that come into contact with you. Dressing for the lab and preparing PPE will minimize the risk for
exposure or harm. Second, respect the lab and your colleagues. Behaviour goes a long way to ensure that the lab
is safe environment for everyone. Follow the written SOP. Never work alone and always have one other person
in the lab so that you can help each other incase of emergency. If safety violation occurs or you notice any
unsafe condition in the lab, report it immediately to the supervisor.
Third, use of the wrong or uncallibrated equipment could present inaccurate data. The specified and equipment
should be well-maintained according to a specified program and only used as intended. This helps deliver
reliable data and prevents data loss.

Good laboratory practices is required to avoid mistakes and make sure everyone is following the
same rules. This leads to the production of accurate and quality data. Those good laboratory practices should be
employed to produce successful research outcomes.
