What is power sharing and why is it important?

Power sharing is the distribution of power among different groups and communities in a society.
It involves sharing decision-making authority and resources with all sections of society, and
ensuring that different groups are represented in government and other important institutions.

Power sharing is important for several reasons. Firstly, it helps to prevent conflicts and promote
social harmony in diverse societies. When different communities and groups are involved in
decision-making, they feel more included and represented, which reduces the chances of
resentment and conflict. Secondly, power sharing is a key principle of democracy, which
emphasises the importance of equal participation and representation for all citizens. In
democratic societies, power is shared among different institutions, such as the executive,
legislature, and judiciary, to prevent the concentration of power in the hands of a single
individual or group. Finally, power sharing promotes accountability and transparency in
governance by ensuring that decision-making is not monopolised by a single group or
institution.
