Lesson Plan in Mathematics Grade IV

Quarter I, Week 6

I. Objectives:

 Divide 3- to 4- Digit Numbers by 1 digit Numbers without remainder.

 Find the quotient of the number given.
 Appreciate the kindness of others in emergency situations.

Value Focus: Kindness in Helping Someone in Emergency Situations

II. Subject Matter:

Dividing 3- to 4- Digit Numbers by 1-Digit Numbers without Remainder

III. Materials:
DLP, Projector, Laptop, Paper Strips

Curriculum Guide (M4NS-If-54.3)
Learner's Guide
IV. Procedure:

A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Drill:
Before the start of the class, read the Setting of Standards display on the screen. Have a drill on
division basic facts in a game way. Group them into 3, and then choose a player to answer the
problem given on the screen. The player who got the highest score will be the winner. The winner
group had a reward after the class.

1. 35 ÷ 5= 4. 54 ÷ 7=
2. 36 ÷ 9= 5. 50 ÷ 5=
3. 72 ÷ 8=

2. Review
Conduct a review on the terms used in a division sentence.
For instance, the number that is divided is the dividend. The number that divides the dividend is the
divisor. The answer in division is quotient.

3. Motivation:
Ask the pupils about their experience during calamities.
* Did you experience calamities in your life?
* What did you do during those times?
* How will you handle emergency situations?

B. Developmental Activities:
1. Presentation
The Municipal Mayor of Sto. Tomas received a donation of 791 kilograms of rice distributed equally
to 7 barangays affected by typhoon Pablo. How many kilograms of rice did each barangay receive?

Ask comprehension questions:

 Who donated rice distributed to the barangays?
 How many kilos of rice did the mayor received from donations?
 How many barangays affected by the typhoon Pablo?
 Did you receive some donations in case of emergency situations?
 What was the feeling when you received such donations?
 Infuse the kindness in helping someone on emergency situations
Say: What does the problem ask for? How do we solve the problem?

2. Activity
Group the pupils in to 3 groups. Let them answer the given problem by providing them the steps in
answering the problem.
Refer to activity sheet.

Steps in dividing 3- to 4-digit numbers by 1-digit without remainder

STEP 1
*Divide the first partial dividend (7 hundreds) by the divisor.
*Write the quotient 1 above the hundreds place.
*Multiply the quotient 1 by the divisor 7.
*Write the product 7 under 7 hundred
*subtract 7 from 7
*Write 0 under hundreds place
STEP 2
*Bring down the number in tens place.
*Divide the new dividend by the divisor.
*Write the quotient above the tens place.
*Multiply the quotient by the divisor.
*Write the product under the tens place.
*Subtract the number.
STEP 3
*Bring down the number in ones place.
*Divide the new dividend by the divisor.
*Write the quotient above the ones place.
*Multiply the quotient by the divisor.
*Write the product under the ones place.
*Subtract the number.
*If the answer is 0, then you've got your answer above.

3. Analysis
How did you find the activity?

-
How did you get the quotient of a 3-digit number divided by 1-digit number?
Did you work cooperatively with your team during the activity?

Provide another example; let the pupils within the group answer the given problem. Remind
them to work cooperatively.

The Rotary Club of Tagum City distributed 7637 packages of groceries for families in some barangays.
Each barangay received 7 packages. How many barangays were served?

4. Abstraction
Lead the pupils to give the generalization by asking: How do you divide 3- to 4- digit numbers by 1-
digit numbers without remainder?

5. Application
