1. Task

Create a self-selected group of 4 people. Choose an existing company, you are a


consultancy organisation that has been invited to advise the management of that
selected company on what it needs to do to improve its performance and close
the gap with similar world class companies.
Write a concise (4000 words), but specific, report on what needs to be done. You
will need to use the Strategic Audit Worksheet (See attached “Audit Sheet” on
the e-learning), secondary data and personal interviews.
The report must follow the strategic management process steps and include the
following parts:

- Introduction about the selected company (Review current situation)
- External Audit
- Internal Audit
- Analysis of Strategic Alternatives & Recommendations for
Strategy
- Implementation of Strategy (An action plan to achieve the goals)
- Evaluation of Strategy
Extra readings and elements that may add to your audit will help you gain
more marks and achieve a higher grade.

2. Objectives
 To be introduced to a critical understanding of the real strategy making and
implementing and to relate to the theory and practice of Strategic
Management.

3. General Instructions
1. The report
 Should not only include theories and secondary data, but also your
own in-depth analysis and, valid and backed-up opinion and
constructive arguments.
 Requires proper citation using BUE referencing style.

2. Layout and Format: The report must be:


 Word-processed.
 Submitted on A4 paper.
 Double line spaced.
 Font Arial 12 point.

 1 feedback form
 Member Contribution Form (available on e-learning) which should
include the attendance and signatures of ALL team members to
ensure fair grading.

Word Limit
 The report must be 4000 words (excluding cover page, table of
content, in-text citations and reference list).

 No penalty will be applied if the word limit is exceeded by up to 15%.


 If the word limit is exceeded by more than 15% (i.e. more than 4600
words), then the penalty will be reducing the mark to 40/100 as a
maximum mark to be awarded for this assessment.
 It is not recommended that the report should be less than 3500
words, as it may not meet expectations.
 You must state on the Coursework Submission and Statement of
Academic Honesty Form the number of words.

4. Marking Criteria
The total project grade per student will be divided into 40% for the
group work and 60% for individual work (see the Report Details &
Marking Criteria uploaded on your e-learning)

5. Feedback
 Written feedback will be provided 15 working days after submission
upon your request.
 Generic oral feedback will be provided during the last lecture of the
semester.
 Generic written feedback will be posted on e-learning.

6. Advice
Do not pass off the work of others as your own. It is you that is being examined.
We want to see your understanding, your ability, and your ideas. Cite references
correctly but do not be over dependent on them.

If academic misconduct is suspected, it will be investigated thoroughly and it is


likely to be treated as a Major Offence under the University’s General Academic
Regulations (see sections on Assessment and Academic Misconduct).

7. Coursework Re-assessment
An individual report is required to be submitted during the Summer Assessment
Period. A detailed Coursework Brief for the re-sit will be uploaded on e-learning
during the Summer Assessment Period.
