Functions of Communication: To affect Social Interactions (Small

Talk)

Scene: On a yellow pad of paper, students are instructed by their

teacher (Ryan), to write their biographies. One of the transfer
students, (Gello) shared his paper with his classmates, (Lovelywell,
Denice, and Cristine), who are trying to get to know him better.

Teacher (Ryan): Since it is our first day of school, I’d like

everyone to get a yellow pad of paper. Write your biographies there
and exchange them with your classmates.

Cristine: *trying to approach Gello*

Cristine: Hello, can I ask for a yellow pad of paper for three
people? We didn’t bring any, sorry.

Gello: Sure! *hands Cristine with 3 yellow pad papers*

Cristine: Thank you! You’re so kind. By the way, what school did you
graduate from?

Gello: I graduated from New Era High School.

Lovelywell: Oh! My friend graduated from that school too.

*A moment of silence*

Lovelywell: *tapping Denice’s shoulder*

Lovelywell: Aren’t you going to approach him?

Denice: I’m sorry. Hi, I’m Denice.

Gello: Is she your friend too?

Lovelywell: Yes.

Cristine: Sorry, she might look intimidating at first but she’s very
nice and loud.

Gello: It’s okay. Hi, I am Gello.

Denice: Nice to meet you.

Lovelywell: She;s beautiful, isn’t she?
Gello: *nods*
