A. Introduction START UP ACTIVITIES
(20min) Prayer

Checking of attendance
MOTIVATION
The teacher will play lyric video entitled “When you say nothing at
all” to the students. Students will be asked to sing along with the
song.
Questions
1. What do you feel while listening to the song?
2. Do you think the singer has a mutual feeling with the person he’s
referring to in the song?
GOAL ORIENTATION
The teacher will present the topic and the objectives of the lesson
Explicit Information
are information that is clearly stated on the text. It is well explained.
a reader can easily extract in the text by simply searching
information in the text.
Implicit Information
are information that is NOT clearly stated on the text.
a reader can derive the information by reading what is stated in the
text and connect it in real life, your experience and stock knowledge.

CLAIMS OF FACT
It is a statement that presents ideas as true or false. It is something that
has existed, exist or will exist which could also be verified using actual
evidence.
Example
Success of teaching depends upon the creativity of the teacher
This statement can be proven true or false.
CLAIMS OF VALUE
It is a statement that presents ideas as good or bad, right or wrong, better
or worse. These claims are often influence by morals, beliefs, and
preferences.
Example
Staying with family with a limited income is more valuable than being away
earning a lot.
This statement can be proven better or worse.
CLAIMS OF POLICY
It is a statement that presents ideas as solution to problem. The key word
is the verb should, ought and must.
Example
The government should continue to offer scholarship program especially to
the poor but bright students.
This statement is a solution to a problem but still debatable
C. Engagement Activity 1: DEBATE!
(25min) Topic: Success of teaching depends upon the creativity of the teacher.
Direction: The class will be divided into two groups. Group will look for
information to depend their stand on the topic.
Criteria
Cooperation: 10 points
Content: 10 points
Delivery: 10 points
Note: This activity is for them to practice looking for hard and concrete
evidence.
D. Assimilation Activity 2: Fall for the right one!
(25min) Direction: The teacher will paste 3 pictures on the board; brain, heart and
hand that corresponds to each claims. One student will pick a paper from a
box then read it in front of the class. The class will pole in line in their
chosen answer.
