International criteria on hallmarking. As per the BIS norms, Registration is granted to the
jewellers by BIS under Hallmarking Scheme. The BIS certified jewellers can get their
jewellery hallmarked from the BIS recognized Assaying and Hallmarking Centres.
Consumer can get its jewellery/sample tested from any of us. our Centre undertake the testing
of Jewellery/Samples of common consumers on priority on chargeable basis. Assay Reports
will be given with proper identifications as marked on article.

1.1 HALLMARKING OF GOLD

The BIS Hallmarking Scheme has been aligned with International criteria on hallmarking.
As per this scheme, Registration is granted to the jewellers by BIS under Hallmarking
Scheme. The BIS certified jewellers can get their jewelry hallmarked from any of the BIS
recognized Assaying and Hallmarking Centers.

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING REGISTRATION BY JEWELLER


FOR SALE OF HALLMAREKED JEWELLER.

Hallmarking is the accurate determination and official recording of the proportionate content
of precious metal in precious metal articles. Hallmarks are thus official marks used in many
countries as a guarantee of purity or fineness of precious metal articles. The principle
objectives of the Hallmarking Scheme are to protect the public against adulteration and to
obligate manufacturers to maintain legal standards of fineness.

PROCEDURE FOR RECOGINITION OF ASSAYING AND


HALLMARKING CENTER

Indian Standard “IS 15820:2009 General Requirements for Establishment and Operation of
Assaying and Hallmarking Centre’s” is the basis for recognition of Assaying and
Hallmarking centers. A center desirous of obtaining recognition, after setting up of the
Centre shall apply on the prescribed application form to BIS along with their Quality
Manual, developed on the basis of Generic Quality Manual.

Refineries already in the business of gold refining for the last one year and possessing
accreditation from London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) or National Accreditation
Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accreditation of their laboratories
may apply for obtaining BIS license for marking the Standard Bars produced by them in
accordance with IS 1417: 2016 (for 995 and 999 fineness only).

Check testing of Hallmarked articles by Consumer:
• Consumer can get its jewelry/sample tested from any of the BIS Recognized Assaying
& Hallmarking Centre. The Assaying and Hallmarking centers undertake the testing
of Jewelry/Samples of common consumers on priority on chargeable basis. The
Assaying and Hallmarking center is required to issue Assay Report giving proper

identifications as marked on article.


2) Redressal of Complaint
 In case Hallmarked Jewelry brought by the consumer is found to be of lesser purity than
that marked on jewelry, the testing charges would be refunded to the consumer by the
center who had hallmarked the jewelry. The jeweler shall be obliged to satisfy the
consumer through replacement as envisaged in the existing.

1.3 THE BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDRDS (BIS)

BIS is the National Standards Body of India working under the Aegis of Ministry of
Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India. It is established by the
Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 which came into effect on 23 December 1986. The
Minister in charge of the Ministry or Department having administrative control of the BIS is
the ex-officio President of the BIS.

The organization was formerly the Indian Standards Institution (ISI), set up under the
Resolution of the then Department of Industries and Supplies No. 1 Dated 3 September
1946. The ISI was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

As a corporate body, it has 25 members drawn from Central or State Governments, industry,
scientific and research institutions, and consumer organizations. Its headquarters are in New
Delhi, with regional offices in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Delhi and 20
branch offices.

REGULATORY FRAMEWORK

National Building Code of India, 2005 is a comprehensive building code for regulating the
building construction activities across the country which was first published in
1970. Preliminary Draft Amendment No. 1 to NBC 2005 Part 11 "Approach to
Sustainability" was put into circulation a preliminary draft amendment and BIS accepted the
feedback from people till 15 March 2013.

The Bill was passed on 8 March 2016 by the Rajya Sabha. The new Bill will repeal the
existing Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986. The main objectives of the proposed
legislation are:

To establish the Bureau of Indian standards (BIS) as the National


Standards Body of India.

• The Bureau to perform its functions through a governing council, which will consist
of President and other members.
• To include goods, services and systems, besides articles and processes under the
standardization regime.
• To enable the government to bring under the mandatory certification regime for such
articles, processes or service which it considers necessary from the point of view of
health, safety, environment, prevention of deceptive practices, consumer security etc.
This will help consumers receive ISI certified products and will also help in
prevention of import of sub-standard products.
• To allow multiple types of simplified conformity assessment schemes including self-
declaration of conformity (SDOC) against any standard which will give multiple
simplified options to manufacturers to adhere to standards and get a certificate of
conformity, thus improving the 'ease of doing business'.
• To enable the Central Government to appoint any authority in addition to the Bureau
of Indian Standards, to verify the conformity of products and services to a standard
and issue certificate of conformity.
• To enable the Government to implement mandatory hallmarking of precious metals
articles.
• To strengthen penal provisions for better effective compliance and enable
compounding of offences for violations.
• To provide recall, including product liability of products bearing the Standard Mark,
but not conforming to relevant Indian Standards.
• Repeal of the BIS Act of 1986.

2.7.1 The jewelry manufacturing process consists of the following stages :

Stage1- Designing: designers develop and create new designs for jewelry products in
consultation with merchandisers to cater to latest trends and meet specific customer

• Stage2- Model making and mould making: designs are sent to the model-making
section where the model for the jewelry is fabricated in other metal or rubber mould and
sent for approval.
• Stage3- Waxing and wax setting: Wax is injected into the rubber mould to produce wax
jewelry pieces. These wax jewelry pieces are provided finishing touches and precious
stones are then studded onto these wax pieces, and the wax tree produced is forwarded to
the casting department.
• Stage4- Casting: Casting is a very important complex process and requires utmost
skilled and experience casters for the desired final product. Investment is done in this
department for the wax tree in the casting flask. The flask after drying is placed in the
burnout furnace to melt and/or vaporize the wax to create a cavity in the investment
flask. Thereafter, the cavity is filled with the relevant metal in which the jewelry is
required to be manufactured.

• Stage5- Sprue grinding: The metal jewelry pieces are separated from the tree. Any
sprue remaining after such separation is ground at this stage.

• Stage6- Filling: Filling is a technique that helps in removing excess metal or solder from
a piece that is being worked on. It is a process wherein the casting layer is removed by
using different tools like files and burrs. It gives a smooth finishing to the piece.
Assembly is the process where two or more components of the same design are joint with

the help of solder or laser technique.

• Stage7- Polishing: Polishing offers a neat finish and enhances the value of a piece.
Polishing involves three steps, tumbling, pre polishing, and ultra-cleaning. Jewellery
pieces with diamonds require pre polishing before the diamond is set. This is because
once the diamonds are set the area below the diamond portion cannot be polished and

may affect the shine of the diamond.

• Stage8- Metal setting: The relevant diamond and other precious stones are studded on to

the jewelry at this stage.

• Stage 9 -Rhodium polish: Following the studding of the jewelry and polishing of the
jewelry, the jewelry is provided with rhodium treatment. The jewelry pieces then
undergo final quality checks and are then forwarded to the packing division. Jewelry
accounts for the largest proportion of gold fabrication and consumption demand. Jewelry
demand covers all newly-made carat jewelry and now-a-days even gold watches,
whether plain gold or combined with other materials.

• As per BIS standard for every 10per 1 sample to be drawn and for over 40 similar
item sample should be drawn and follow the same BIS standard.
• After receiving the sample reports from XRF department it is sent for assaying
department it is sent for assaying department for acidic of chursity report.

• Quality manager takes the samples and curies down the sample code and given to
measuring and assaying department for best report gold standard and quality.
• Assaying report takes about 2 to 3 hours to assaying results later it is moved to
measuring department to get results.
• Assaying department give there report to quality manager, where quality manager
checks the standard issued or gold and assaying is up to mark.
• If the standard issued gold marketing with assaying report there is decoded from the
job card allowed to next department for marking or BIS logo along with shop logo
standard or gold along with hallmark center logo.
• When the quality manager issue no objection certificates then it is taken marking
department for laser making or hallmark has per BIS standard.
• Later the same gold will be dispatched to quality manager for delivery.
• Quality manager issues to delivery department with information or samples for
assaying and GST bill changes for processing.
• Delivery takes the receipt back from jewelers and deliver the gold back with quality

It was a great experience to do online organization study report on Sri Vishnu hallmarking
private limited which gives me a chance to explore my skills and suit myself. Sri Vishnu hall

officials. The main purpose of organization study is to make ourselves acquainted with

opportunity to study the human behavior and also learn about the various department
functions.  It was begin with a brief introduction of Sri Vishnu hallmarking private ltd. I
started under the guidance of Ms. megha and Mr. Sunil of Sri Vishnu hallmarking private
ltd. I was given an opportunity to refer the organization manuals where I came to know
about the induction procedures involved in that work and gained a fair idea of the function in
Sri Vishnu hallmarking private limited.
• The study helped me to know about the organization, its structure, functions of various
departments, working style of employees etc.
• The study helped me to know every department and some are kept confidential. Here every
departments inter connected. The departmental experience is as follows:-

In the production department I had an opportunity to learn how the production takes

6.2 FINANCE DEPARTMENT:

In finance department they follow tally accounting package to maintain the daily
transactions. And I learn about what are the methods of raising the capital, working capital to
be maintained, Its storage and different modes of advances, allowances granted to Sri Vishnu

6.3 MARKETING DEPARTMENT:

Marketing department in which I learnt customer selection, product profile of the customer,
order processing, pricing strategies, on time distribution of gold to customers and interact
with other departments in order to achieve the target.
