Assignment in Contemporary Arts
-------------------------------------------------
 Give three definitions of contemporary arts.
1. Contemporary art is what we call as “the art of today”. Artists who are living in
our time are the ones who make this kind of art. These artworks mirror the issues
in our society, and why they are important to us and the world.
2. The term contemporary art refers to art such as painting, sculpture,
photography, installation, performance, and video art that are made today. The
word “contemporary” (adj.) means living at the same time, or occurring in the
present.
3. Contemporary art includes artworks that are created during the late 20 th and
early 21st centuries. It is the type of art that is produced after the Modern Art
movement up to this day.
 How can you describe contemporary arts?
- Contemporary art is a kind of art that is being done today by living artists. It
reflects the issues that we have in our society, and how it can affect an individual.
Some contemporary art may look simple, some may look complex, but what
matters the most is how the artist can deliver his/her message to the audience.
Nowadays, an art can be created in a traditional way or in a digital way.
 Where can you find contemporary arts?
- You can literally find contemporary art anywhere. It can be a street art, a digital
art, a painting, a sculpture, a video art, a photo that holds a deep meaning, and
many more. For example, digital art is a type of art that is made with the use of
digital technology. This type of art can always be seen on the internet. Most of
the time, you’ll see young artists post their digital arts on social media as a way
to raise awareness regarding the social issues that we face today.
 Give five examples of contemporary arts.
1. “Baby Boom” (1982) by Jean-Michel Basquiat
2. “Fireflies on the Water” (2002) by Yayoi Kusama
3. “Vapor Trail” (2004) by Takashi Murakami
4. “Ave Maria” (2007) by Anselm Kiefer
5. “The Artist is Present” (2010) by Marina Abramović
