‟SOME PEOPLE SAY LIFE IS TOO EASY NOWADAYS, WHILE OTHERS

CONSIDER IT IS QUITE DIFFICULT.”

It is extremely common nowadays for people of different generations to argue on the topic of
life today being way less stressful and more manageable than in the past, because humanity
today has technology at their fingertips.
One way to put it is that the older generations, more specifically Gen X and prior, say to have
lived harder lives: they did not have information surrounding them, they worked harder in
school, been more conscientious, spent way more time outside in their childhoods etc. The
environment which they grew up in seems to have shaped them into hard-working conformists.
Therefore, they are less likely to believe that young people nowadays could be as hard-working
or as goal-oriented as they were in their youth and so they blame it on the importance of
technology. As they see it, technology facilitates our studying, our work, and overall, our daily
life. Which is for the most part, true.
Diversely, Gen Z and Millennials could say quite the opposite. We may have had less studying to
do in school, and when we did, we had an ocean of knowledge just one click or touch away.
However, precisely because of this, there is way more expected of us. For example, job
requirements are higher, and more pressure is put onto people than in the past. As we can see,
that results into increasing numbers of mental health problems. When you choose to see the
bright parts of Gen Z, though, it is obvious that we are trying to change the world for the better.
The majority of us are against discrimination and are marching towards a safer, more peaceful
world, where everyone can express themselves and where equality is the norm.
In conclusion, I do believe that older generations come from a harsher background and that it
has interfered with their upbringing. Nonetheless, that does not implicitly make life nowadays a
dream. People still work hard to get what they want, in a world where the bar is constantly
rising in all domains.
