Lesson 4 — Summary

IATA GDS Fares and Ticketing

LESSON 4: GDS FARE DISPLAYS — SUMMARY
In this lesson you learnt how to retrieve and interpret GDS fare displays. Fare displays are
used by agents to determine the general cost of travel between two cities and to compare
prices between airlines. They can also be used to search for a specific fare.

The price of travel between two cities can change depending on the date traveled and using
dates in the entry can help reduce the number of fares listed in the display. Other qualifiers,
such as airline, fare type and booking code, can also be used to narrow the results, making
it easier to locate the appropriate fare.

A few of a fare's rules are shown in the fare display, but this does not represent the full
conditions of the fare. Routing information appears in the main display or a follow-up
display. Routing information is important when travel is not direct. It will tell you if and where
stops are allowed and the carriers on which travel is allowed.
