Title: Work Immersion and Its Effects on the Social Development of Grade 12 – TVL-HE Congenial at

Pagbilao National High School

Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

On May 15, 2013, President Benigno S. Aquino III signed Republic Act 10533, often known as the
"Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013." In that order, the program includes at least one (1) year of
kindergarten, six (6) years of primary school, and six (6) years of secondary education. Secondary
education consists of four (4) years of junior high and two (2) years of senior high school (Official
Gazette, 2013). This is one of the most fundamental elements in the redesigned educational curriculum.

Work Immersion is a component of the Senior High School (SHS) Curriculum that consists of 80 hours of
practical experience or work simulation that Grade 12 students will participate in, to discover the actual
workplace setting and to enhance the skills and knowledge that the school provides under the guidance
of the School Head and the Partner's designated personnel. According to Department of Education Order
No. 30 s. One of the purposes of the K to 12 Basic Education program in 2017 is to build learners’
competencies. Work ethics and values are important for completing their education or entering the
workforce. Work immersion is a necessary subject that has been integrated into the curriculum in order
for the nation's development aim to be accomplished and to attain stronger coherence with basic
education.

Throughout the world, most regions were meticulous with 12 years of basic education. This has been a
trend in addressing global needs, particularly in human resources. These are the fundamental building
blocks of today's educational system. The world expects competent workers with competent education
(Urban et al., 2012).

They will learn about work ethics, workplace safety, rights and responsibilities, and effective ways to
resolve conflicts among co-workers, and the work will be less difficult for them if they apply at the same
or a related company. Typically, OJT students are required to generate the same outputs that regular
workers produce (YKS, 2018).

Immersion concentrates on the significance of education in molding the future of students in the K to

12Curriculum in response to worldwide competitiveness particularly in the ASEAN Economic Community
by 2015. Ramos (2015) stated that the literature will also discuss issues about the job market, job
mismatch, competitiveness, and marketability or employment ability. At this pace of this changing
society and economy, a lot of actions should take place. They have to face a lot of challenges,
especially educators who are being asked to do more with less due to rapidly evolving technologies and
ongoing shifts in the global economy and demography. A successful education system will be critical if a
multicultural society is to succeed and prosper in the future. Education is a route to a better profession
and increased earning possibilities.
Improving knowledge and abilities are properly utilized within an organization, which results in better
service quality, customer satisfaction, trust, increased efficiency, and therefore a faster as well
higher return on investment.

This study aims to investigate the effects of work immersion in improving the performance of students’
skills and knowledge to know what the preferred courses are for them. As well as the best courses
that fit them proportionally to their gained knowledge and skills.
