It is well known that the regional languages of India have a rich literary heritage.
Gujarati is one of the languages that represents such a rich heritage. The
history of
Gujarati language is about one thousand years old. Many great creators
have
.enriched
Gujarati liteiature with their creations. Gujarat Sahitya Akademi was established in 1982
by the Government of Gujarat to pres.erve and nurture such a rich heritage
of Gujarati
language and literature. Gujarat Sahitya Akademi is an autonomous
organization
fun-ctio-ning undor the youth and Cultural Department of the
Government of Gujarat'

Apart from Cu;arati, Sanskrit, Hindi, Kutchi, Sindhi and Urdu language academies
also functioning under the umbrella of Gujarat Sahitya Akademi.
