Task: Many governments have attempted to employ Marxist theory in order to create a
more equal and prosperous society. In this activity, students will attempt to apply Marxist
theory to a specific aspect of daily life.
• Think of a way you could apply Marxist theory to some part of your lives that
would have a personal effect on you. For example, how the school cafeteria
operates, students are selected for sports teams, or the city transportation system
works.
• Explain the specific application of a Marxist theory and how it would benefit the
individuals who would be impacted by its implementation.

Tons of facets of the world has changed over the past few years. The status of
technology progression, the number of natural resources in total, the temperature,
the permanent aftermaths of the unforeseen adversary, the systems, the people, and
so forth. However, some things remain the same. That is the inequality of the system
in terms of socioeconomic status. While we may argue that people are more aware of
and actively engaged in key facts and concerns, particularly racial and social justice
issues these days or what we call “woke” people in slang, this inequality persists in
our society like a culture that is hard to counter with the sole existence of the
capitalists and the working class.
Marxist theory, which thoroughly points this inequality, can be observed in
many aspects of our experiences. To cite an experience of mine that reflects this
inequality, let me share about this one time I entered a fancy-looking boutique. It is
not just fancy-looking by the way, it is a popular, high-end brand I would not even
bother entering if only I was not bored that time. Entering that shop, I was wearing a
shabby pair of clothes and slip-ons that time, no accessories at all. I was expecting
that the people inside are going to assist me, and I was bracing myself for it because I
hate being assisted. As it turns out, they did not. In fact, they completely ignored my
entrance. I was relieved…Until this fancy-looking customer came in. That’s when one
of them stood from their seats and assisted the customer. That customer truly looked
like someone carrying a bunch of cash with her. It was a noneventful realization that
PEOPLE ARE TREATED ACCORDING TO SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS.

Now, if Marxist theory of ideal society is implemented, then everyone who

enters these expensive shops will receive the best assistance without feeling
ashamed of what they can and cannot buy. They will not shy away from these shops
and will feel just as important as everyone else. There will be no discrimination when
it comes to people that are served. On the other side of the coin, this will reflect the
wholeness of the system and the people. EVERYONE WILL BE TREATED THE SAME
regardless of how much money one makes – the ideal world of Karl Marx.
