Competition Rules and Guidelines

Chess Hero

ARTICLE I: Player Eligibility and Registration

A. The player shall sign in to https://www.chess.com. Sign in using the UNC email account.

B. Each team shall have at least one (1) and at most three (3) participants.

C. Teams having more than one (1) participant will compete individually.

D. Each team is recommended to register at least one (1) and at most two (2) participants as a
substitute player.

ARTICLE II: Tournament Format And Design

A. Short Description - The player will be put into five (5) rounds of Open Division Swiss System
until a champion is declared.

B. The competition shall use Chess.com

C. Time control shall be fifteen (15) minutes for each player to finish the game using the game
clock.

D. Player is credited 1 point for a win, 0.5 for a draw and 0 for a loss

ARTICLE III. Competition Rules

A. Players from the same team shall not be paired against each other in the five or final
round.

B. A player who fails to appear at the chessboard and make his first move fifteen (15) minutes
after the start of the round shall be declared in default.

ARTICLE IV. Tournaments Officials And Appeals Committee

A. The Tournament Manager shall be the Board and Card Games Committee.

B. The decision of the Chief Arbiter on a Point of Law is Final.

C. Any Appeal or Protest on the decision of the Chief Arbiter on a point of Fact shall be
submitted duly signed by the player, athletic manager in writing not more than 30 minutes
(standard) after the conclusion of the games in question.

D. All other matters not covered in the rules shall be decided by the Organizer (Board and

Card Games Committee) reserves the right to amend or alter any provision of the above
Rules and Regulation for the success and interest of the tournament.

F. FAIRPLAY MEASURES
a. Remain as stated in the regulations, but additionally:
b. Players are required to stay in the Playing Area at all times while their game is in
progress, unless the player has received permission from the Chief Arbiter.
c. No other people are allowed to be present in the Playing Area, or Room in which the
Playing Area is contained, at any time while a game is in progress, without
permission of the Chief Arbiter.
d. No electronic communication devices or chess playing aids are permitted in the
Playing Area.
e. Use of phone or when the phone rings is an automatic forfeiture of the game.
f. By entering into the tournament each player accepts the above-mentioned Fair-Play
measures as a condition of entry in a voluntary sports event and agrees that his/her
participation takes place subject to these Fair-Play measures.
g. Trash talk is strictly prohibited.
h. Inappropriate behavior will receive a first warning. A second offense will result in
disqualification.

G. The ranking point is fifteen (15) points.
