ASSIGNMENT III

1. Look for a sample job description (any occupation).

TEACHER
Job Description
A teacher is responsible for preparing lesson plans and educating
students at all levels. Their duties include assigning homework, grading tests,
and documenting progress. Teachers must be able to instruct in a variety of
subjects and reach students with engaging lesson plans.

2. Write a critique paper highlighting its content and relevance to the job title.
There is a relationship that exists between the job title of "teacher" and the
responsibilities and obligations that come along with the role. For an extremely
extended period of time, the professionalization of the teaching profession has
been a source of both hope and despair for those who work in the field of
education. Since the turn of the twentieth century, educators have been making
concerted attempts to disseminate the concept that elementary and secondary
education should be seen as two distinct levels of schooling.
The field of secondary education is one that demands a large amount of
specialized knowledge and abilities; hence, it ought to be granted the same level
of respect and dignity as more conventional professions such as law and
medicine. On the other hand, since its inception, the movement to
professionalize education has been beset with misunderstanding and
controversy. A sizeable chunk of it is devoted to investigating the ideas of what it
means to be a professional as well as how to lend a more professional air to a
certain kind of job. It is beneficial to have a solid understanding of the
responsibilities and tasks associated with a particular role, and the job
description can assist with this. This is good not only for applicants who are
interested in the position, but it is also important for management in choosing the
actions that are required to achieve organizational goals. Not only is this
beneficial for applicants, but it is also beneficial for management. Even if the
purpose of job descriptions such as this one is to attract qualified applicants, it is
still possible that an employee who does not meet the qualifications will be hired
anyhow. In a situation like this one, having a job description that is complete,
accurate, and detailed can potentially serve as backup documentation for bad
performance. If you had started out by making it very obvious what was expected
of the employee, it would have been very easy for you to pinpoint and document
the exact areas in which the worker's performance does not meet the standards.
This information will enhance any other material that relates to performance,
such as performance reviews, notes from one-on-one meetings, and other
discussion notes. Specifically, the information will be used to support the
performance of the employee.
