Last Three Concerts Attended
Last Three Concerts Attended
My name is Mason Voskamp, a musician based in Austin TX. After reading the posting for
assistant to the composer, I believe I am an excellent fit for Red House Studios.
Last three concerts attended
Underoath and Dance Gavin Dance @ Stubbs. B oth bands have been favorites of mine since middle
school. This wasn’t my first time seeing either band, and surely won’t be my last. Tilian Pearson is great to
watch on stage, and I’d love to see him do a solo tour.
Austin Symphony Orchestra and Ballet - Stravinski’s T he Firebird. This suite is a personal favorite of
mine, as I have played this as a marching band arrangement. I had not seen the ballet version or any live
rendition until the Austin Symphony Orchestra performance.
Piknic Electronik @ Auditorium Shores. A great day in Austin for some outdoor dance music. There were
two stages both playing primarily house music. By the end of the day I had settled in at the stage with
Moon Boots.
I have also recently attended The MAW Gallery on West 6th Street. A lovely art studio with a wide array of
visual art mediums. I strongly recommend a visit.
Last three albums enjoyed
Vince Guaraldi Trio - A Charlie Brown Christmas. ‘Tis the season, and Vince Guaraldi’s piano music is one
of my favorite things to listen to this time of year. I’m a big fan of jazz pianists like Bill Evans and Brad
Mehldau, but the Charlie Brown music has some additional nostalgia.
Post Malone - B eerbongs & Bentleys. Although this album came out in April, I only discovered it less than
a month ago. Having only heard a few songs on the radio periodically, I had no idea how enjoyable the
lyricism and rhythms behind the rest of the tracks on the album are. O ver Now and Ball for Me a
re
currently my favorites on the album, but I still prefer to listen to it top to bottom.
Chromeo - Head Over Heels. I’ve been a Chromeo mega fan ever since I discovered their album F ancy
Footwork. They’re dancy, they’re cheesy, they’re retro, and they’re very funky. All traits that put them in my
top 10 of all time. The song Count Me Out r eassured me that after a decade of making music, they still
have the ability to tap into the same funkiness that made me fall in love with them back in 2007.
A few more things about me
I love taking hikes (especially with dogs) and I’ve recently taken up bouldering. I’m always down
to go climb at Austin Bouldering Project. BBQ is my one true love and I’ve been to nearly every place in the
greater Austin area except Franklin’s. I’m not nearly patient enough to wait in line for that long. I only play
one video game and that’s Super Smash Bros. I’m hyper competitive at it and already have the new
version for the Nintendo Switch. I’m also left handed.
