Summer night Dream

The game centers around the marriage of Duke Theseus of Athens and Queen
Hippolyta of the Amazons. The beginning of the play reveals a love triangle: Hermia is
in love with Lysander, but she is supposed to marry Demetrius who is in love with her.
Helena loves Demetrius. Hermia wants to go against the wishes of her father Egeus,
which angers him and he appeals to the duke.
Meanwhile, Peter Quince's theater company plans to put on a performance of Pyramus
and Thisbe for the wedding entertainment. Nick Bottom is going to be playing the part
of Pyramus, but he gets so excited that he wants to turn the play into a one-man show.
At the same time, the king and queen of the fairies, Oberon and Titania, arrive in the
forest outside of Athens for the wedding. Oberon is angry with Titania for not giving
him his changeling, so he asks the sprite to mix a potion that when he puts on the
eyelids of a sleeping person will make them fall in love with the first thing they see in
the morning. He wants Titania to fall in love with a forest animal so he can use it as
leverage to get the changeling out of her.
Hermia and Lysander escape from Aegeus into the forest; Helena, hoping to win
Demetrio's favor, tells him where they've gone, and they follow them into the woods as
well. Oberon sees that Demetrius is cruel to Helena and instructs Puck to put some of
that same potion on Demetrius; However, Puck accidentally puts it on Lysander
instead. Helena bumps into Lysander and he falls instantly in love with her. Oberon
realizes that something has gone wrong, so he puts the potion on Demetrius while
Puck brings Helena to him. Now both men are in love with Helena, but Helena doesn't
think either of them is sincere. Hermia is devastated by Lysander's betrayal, and
Lysander and Demetrius prepare to duel until Oberon and Puck intervene, separating
the two men.
Puck sees Nick Bottom and the other players rehearsing in the woods, and turns Nick
Bottom's head into a donkey's head, scaring the other players. Titania wakes up with
the potion in her eyes and instantly falls in love with the donkey-headed Bottom.
Oberon takes his changeling and arranges Puck to reverse the potion and convinces
everyone that they were only dreaming. Demetrius loves Helena now, so Hermia is free
to marry Lysander. King Theseus decides that all couples must marry. Puck ends the
play by suggesting to the audience that the play may have been a dream.
ACT 1
Narrator: The inhabitants of Athens celebrate the pleasant news
that Duke Theseus will soon marry the queen of the Amazons,
Hippolyta.

However, in that city not everyone enjoys the same luck in love,
as Hermia suffers for not being with Lisandro, being forced to
marry Demetrius.

Faced with this unfortunate situation, Aegeus takes his daughter

to Theseus's palace, so that the duke intercedes and makes her
reflect, but Lysander and Demetrius are also there.

– Haggai: greetings my honorable duke, I want to express my

sincere congratulations on your nuptials with Hippolyta. Today I
come for your help to make my daughter reconsider.

– Theseus: thank you Haggai for your good wishes. Tell me what
happened with Hermia? (fixes his gaze on her).

– Ageo: (worried) for months she has been disobedient, because

she claims to be in love with Lisandro and not with Demetrio,
whom she should marry.

– Theseus: what do you say about it beautiful maiden, why do

you choose another path contrary to the will of your father?
– Hermia: Duke, with all due respect, Lisandro is the man I love, I
wouldn't feel comfortable losing my virginity to Demetrius,
because I don't feel anything for him.

– Ageo: Hermia, Lisandro fell in love with you under false love
verses, making you lose your mind. But if you hold the opinion,
then I ask our highness to apply the ancient privilege of Athens,
which states that, being mine, I have the right to designate you
Demetrius as my husband, although if you refuse you will die,
according to law.

– Hermia: I'm sorry father, I can't change my feelings; majesty

this cruel act can happen? Or are there other punishments?

– Theseus: you have two options, beautiful Hermia, the first is to

spend the rest of your life alone, maintaining chastity, and the
second is to die.

– Hermia: my good sir, if those are the alternatives I have, I prefer

to be pure before giving myself to Demetrius.

– Theseus: think about it, you are young and beautiful, I just
hope you are smart when making the decision. I will wait for your
answer until my wedding day.
ACT 2
Narrator: After that awkward conversation between Haggai,
Hermia and Duke Theseus, Demetrius and Lysander immediately
intervened.

– Demetrius: my dear Hermia, give me the opportunity to love

you. Please Lisandro, do not interfere in the relationship
anymore, pretend that you are left over here.

– Lisandro: (exalted) she doesn't correspond to you! Well, her

heart is mine, you already have her father's love, with whom you
get along better.

– Haggai: foolish man! In bad taste, your comment. I am the one

who decides about her and I will only consider Demetrio as son-
in-law.

– Lisandro: I don't know what your preference is with Demetrio,

because economically I am equal to or more stable than him, I
could offer the whole world to his daughter.

– Lisandro: Also, Demetrio is not a loyal man, because he took

advantage of Elena's feelings to make her fall in love, and now
he's after Hermia.

Narrator: Duke Theseus replied to Lisandro that he was already

aware of what happened with Elena and Demetrius, but he had
not had time to resolve that matter, however, he did not give
much importance to the issue at the time, since he had to
continue attending the preparations for his wedding with
Hippolyta, thus concluding the meeting.

ACT 3
Narrator: When leaving the meeting, Haggai and Demetrius
accompanied the duke along with his fiancée, Hippolyta, to refine
some details of the marriage. On the other hand, Hermia and
Lisandro took the opportunity to see each other secretly.

– Lisandro: how do you feel love?

– Hermia: sadness covers my soul, not being able to be together,

what a terrible pain, not even my worst enemy, I wish it!

– Lisandro: calm down my beautiful maiden, what do you think if

we run away? I have an aunt who has no children, we can marry
and live with her.

– Hermia: I agree dear, everything is to be happy, tell me the day

and place?

– Lisandro: tomorrow morning I'll wait for you in the woods.

Thank you for trusting me, I want you to know that no one will
follow us there or be able to apply that terrible law.
Narrator: while the two lovers plan to elope, they meet
Elena, who expresses to her friend Hermia the misfortune
of not being loved by Demetrius. He also begins
commenting on Hermia's astonishing beauty that
captivated the latter.

Hermia, seeing Elena afflicted, decides to tell her that she

will run away with Lisandro so that she can calm down
and then they say goodbye.

ACT 4
Narrator: Hermia and Linsandro are together in the forest,
but Demetrio, mad with love, chases them, as does Elena,
who revealed her secret.

At the same time, in a nearby area of that place, the kings

of the fairies, Oberon and Titania, had just had a strong
argument that the king himself would soon try to remedy.

– Oberon: Puck, this time your task is to get me a magical

flower whose juice I will use to enchant Titania while she
sleeps, because spilling it in her eyes, she will fall madly in
love with me as I am the first person she sees when she
wakes up.
Narrator: Puck the goblin gives the flower to King Oberon.
While this is happening, Elena walks past Demetrio, who
demands that she stop following him.

– Oberon: how sad to see two young people fighting!

Puck, let's help them to reconcile them, pours part of the
potion into Demetrio's eyes.

Narrator: After Puck poured the juice in Demetrio's eyes,

he instantly became attracted to Elena.

– Demetrio: you are similar to a star, you shine with your

own light, your beauty keeps me awake.

– Elena: what's wrong with you, since when do you make

jokes? Don't play with my feelings anymore.

Narrator: Oberón realized that Elena did not believe in the

love professed by Demetrio and assumed that Puck had
been wrong, for which he asked him to give the substance
to Lisandro, who was passing by, falling madly in love with
Elena.
– Lisandro: sweet Elena, when I see you I feel like an angel
fell from heaven, thanks to that tender look that
hypnotizes me.

Narrator: everything became a mess, and Hermia couldn't

believe Lisandro's words dedicated to Elena, so both
women ended up arguing.

ACT 5
Narrator: After Puck applied the spell, King Oberon
approached Titania to do the same, but the result was not
as expected either, because the first thing she saw was
Bottom, a weaver rehearsing the wedding between Duke
Theseus. and Hippolyta, along with other people in the
forest.

The funny thing about the case is that this man was
wearing a donkey mask that Puck had placed on him.

–Titania: I had never seen someone as special as you! I

think you came into my life as a stroke of luck to make it
much better.
– Bottom: (surprised) I also think the same about you my
pretty queen.

Narrator: Oberon, realizing that both the young men and

his wife reacted completely contrary to what was
expected, decided to undo the spell.

– Oberon: Titania my beautiful lady, sorry for the mistake

made, I will rub this herb on your eyes to remove the
charm.

Narrator: Opening her eyes, the fairy queen hugged

Oberon and gave him a kiss. After this event, the king
ordered Puck to do the same with the two young couples
while they slept.

But upon waking up, Demetrius realized that he had no

chance with Hermia, and decided to give Elena a chance,
thus discovering an unexpected love.

Finally, everyone was released from the spell and Duke

Theseus was moved by what happened, forgiving the
fugitives. While Hermia's father also took pity on her and
Lisandro, authorizing their wedding.
End.
