SATANÁS

This novel is about four stories that end in the same tragic denouement. Three of these
narrations are inventions of the author, but one is based on real history that happened in
Bogota on 4th December 1986, the day of one massacre perpetrated by Campo Elias
Delgado, a friend of the author Mario Mendoza.

“The demons, our demons, and the demons of others consume us, blind us, turn us off,
remember that” González (2021). Mario Mendoza, writer, professor, and Colombian
journalist, in his work "Satanás" set in the time of the 80s in the city of Bogotá, shows us
the presence of evil that inhabits us and around us, implying that not everything is light,
also the darkness takes part of our life.

Mendoza exposes a fragment of the lives of four characters: María is a con artist of top
executives; Ernesto is a priest burdened by the path he decided to follow in his life; Andrés
is a painter who has bizarre visions of the people he portrays on his canvases, and Campo
Elías was an English teacher and former military man with serious traumas and personality
problems connected by a common element that is his demons.

But this work is based on the Pozzeto massacre, with Campo Elías being the protagonist
and responsible for the events. Elias was a person with rather great contempt for society
in special for women; well, it’s said that had a hard childhood, where, he saw his father
commit suicide, the reason for he blamed his mother. He was a Vietnam veteran, the war
in which he enlisted twice; and he was an English teacher.

On 4th December 1986, Campo Elias murdered his mother and all people in the building
where he lived. Then he went to the house of one of his students and killed her and her
mother. Finally, he arrives at your favorite restaurant and starts the Pozzetto massacre.
