ABILLAR, EMELYN Q.

GEC104 A3-2

This concept helps to explain and understand what Mathematical logic is. So Mathematical
logic is the study of valid reasoning that deals with reasoning methods: it provides rules and
techniques for determining whether or not an argument is valid. An argument is a set of
statements made in support of an assertion, along with the assertion derived from these
statements. A statement is a declarative sentence with a truth value of true or false but not
both. In contrast to deductive reasoning, deductive reasoning requires a hypothesis to be true
in order to be valid. The truth of the premises guarantees the truth of the conclusion in a
deductive argument. If the premises are correct, then the conclusion must be correct as well.
Inductive reasoning on the other hand, is a logical guess backed up by sound reasoning. An
argument is sound if it is valid and has true premises.
The concepts of reasoning not only helps me to have a deeper understanding of the subject
but also helps in having a wider perspective to logical statements. The same critical thinking
skills that are practiced in logic can be applied to sound decision-making, which is a skill that
every student wants to develop particularly in studying.  Finally, in order to become an
effective communicator, it is necessary to study logic.
