1. What is the subject of your artwork?

Nature is one word that most describes what my artwork is all about. From a particular
perspective, the subject is a woman’s adoration for nature. The landscape has a breathtaking
view, the woman is looking at it with admiration. I believe that peaceful beauty could be
expressed through this artwork. Besides that, it expresses the woman’s stand in this society,
and her importance. She is the one who looks over beautiful nature; not only that, but she is
also the wonderful creator. This artwork’s subject is a crossover between women and creation:
mother nature.

2. Why did you choose this subject?

I chose this subject as it depicts the best of subtle emotions and a sense of nostalgic
feeling when you look at it. It is also very timely as March is National Women’s Month. Not only
this, but every part of my artwork represents something. For example, the pink cloth on the
woman’s boat divulges nurturing, love, and romance. Pink is also a color of urgency – which is
also timely as our nature is slowly dying, bit by bit. That pink cloth will always be by the
woman’s side, no matter how far the waves of the ocean bring her. Femininity and romanticism
will always be there.

As I’ve said, March is National Women’s Month. Society has been overlooking the role
of women as they have been stereotyped a lot; and not in a good way. The artwork was meant
to rectify these stereotypes alongside accentuating gender equality; after all, both are
tantamount.

Lastly, I chose this subject to interlock the natural world and the human world.
According to BBC News, “nature is being destroyed by humans at a rate never seen before.” It
is undeniable that humanity doesn’t only overlook the significance of equality, but also the
importance of nature not only for society but for nature itself. To me, nature is art – an art that
can not be recreated or replaced by anyone except the creator, and thus, we shall embody our
ideals and aspirations for Mother Nature and be more careful. This artwork describes my
mourning and grief for the slow but sure death of nature alongside empathizing with women
who have faced misogynism.

3. How did you apply the elements of art to lines, color, and texture?
Based on what I have learned, the outlines of romantic artworks are not restrained,
which results in messy outlines, and I have incorporated this in the artwork. Though, some
features of color are smoothly blended out, which highlights the emotion of the main artwork. I
tried to highly detail it for the sake of interpretation. I chose a theme that would be
monumental too. Also, as said in the module, I did it in a way that it is loosely defined by what
it stood against.

4. What did you feel while doing your artwork?

To be bluntly honest, I felt good yet nostalgic at the same time. A part of me wishes
that I did not have to do this artwork on women and nature, because it should already be
common knowledge that both is important in this world. Yet, I am glad that I have expressed
my thoughts and view on this matter through my work of art, alongside incorporating the traits
and characteristics of artworks back in the romanticism era.

I have truly enjoyed working on this project – as I am a true advocate for social justice
and I am aware that I haven’t excelled in art yet. This was a great opportunity for me to
express my creativity and my views at the same time.
