Statement of Purpose

Inspired by my father’s professional background in electrical technology, I had an inclination

towards the engineering domain since childhood. As I grew up, my interest in engineering also grew
which led me to chose Pre-Engineering subjects in my O/A levels and finally, in 2020, I graduated
with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering. However, after gaining work experience
performing as an Assistant Engineering for over a year, I have come to learn that in order to achieve
success in my professional life, I require leadership and management skills just as much as I require
technical knowledge.
My aspiration now is to develop qualities in myself for a more supervisory role and
ultimately, after gaining the required knowledge and expertise, become an entrepreneur similar to the
likes of Elon Musk and Steve Jobs. Alvin Toffler, a renowned writer, businessman and futurist, said “
The illiterate of the 21st Century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot
learn, unlearn and relearn”. So, in order to achieve my goals, I intend to acquire these necessary
managerial skills through proper formal education in this field and incorporate it with my prior
technical experience and education to progress further in my career.
For this purpose, I have chosen the course MSc Engineering Projects and Systems
Management provided by your university. Your contents for this course including core modules like
“Engineering Research Techniques, Entrepreneurship and Quality management” as well as optional
modules like “Mechatronic Design and Automation” allow me to develop new capabilities along with
working and improving on my previous knowledge. This will allow me to pursue jobs such as
Engineering manager, Project engineer and Business development Engineer in several companies of
my home country Pakistan for example NESPAK and DESCON Engineering in addition to making
me equipped for roles at other worldwide multi-national companies including SIEMENS and
PEPSICO. Working in companies on posts like these will give me the experience and exposure that I
will require to set up my own business one day.
I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight why I would love to study in UK and
specifically why I chose your university. UK is a multicultural country with history dating back to
roman times. People from various diverse cultures come to the UK from all over the world and I
would like to be part of these people and explore UK myself. I remember I used to play just cricket in
childhood, but I started playing football too because I started watching and following English Premier
League with my friends. We used to discuss our favorite clubs and players and the goals and the
tackles during breaks between our school periods. That is a good memory. It is not wrong to say that it
has always been on my bucket list to watch teams like Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United play
live in front of my naked eyes.
UK is known for its high-quality learning and studying in UK will make my CV stand out to
prospective employers. A degree from a UK university is recognized and respected around the world
and it will help me refine critical and creative thinking skills. And since an international student is
allowed to work 20 hours a week, it will allow me to gain valuable experience, meet new people and
earn money alongside my studies. Studying at your University will be a dream come true because
Kingston University London is one of the Top 50 Universities in the UK as per Guardian University
League Tables 2022 and is one of only eight London institution in the top 50. According to the data
given in QS Top Universities and Times Higher education, you have 6635 International students
enrolled in your university and an international outlook of 85.7% and being an international student
myself, I find this very appealing. I would love to be a future Kingston University Alumnus and I
promise to try my level best in making this university’s name more renowned all over world through
hardwork and dedication.
