WORKING DOCUMENTS AND

HIVE CONFIGURATION
Revised Nov. 9, 2022, by Tom Morin

What are Working Documents?

In the workplace, many documents are created for individual projects. These documents
have various functions including, aligning team members with a common goal or client
expectation, communicating limits of time and money that can be charged to the project,
communicating the progress of a project, clarifying how the project will be delivered, and
satisfying regulatory requirements. Working documents are regularly referred to, and
updated, throughout the project.
In this course, you will create two working documents and configure Hive to document,
communicate, and accurately reflect the elements and status of your project.
Instructions
Documents
Using the professional document format that you developed for your Team Charter, and
incorporating instructor feedback, create the documents below and submit them by the
due date.
NOTE: Although it is recommended that these documents are developed from your Project
Charter, these working documents must be comprehensive and accurately reflect your
project status at the due date of this assignment.
Budget
Your budget will,
1. Be a maximum of two-page (if it spans more than one page, ensure you have a
header row on each page)
2. Show all sources and amounts of sponsorships (monetary and value-in-kind)
3. Show all actual and expected project costs/expenditures
4. Show all actual and expected project income/revenue (monetary and value-in-kind)
5. Show all actual and expected project profit or loss

you have a header row on each page)
2. Include the seven to ten most critical project stakeholders (you must determine
what makes a stakeholder critical within the context of project communication)
3. Include table fields that inform the reader why (list specific criteria; for example, “if

with each stakeholder.

Assessing Your Working Documents
Documents are assessed on comprehensiveness compared to the assignment instructions
(15 marks), clarity and conciseness (10 marks), use of language (grammar, errors, and typos:
10 marks), and the professionalism and readability of the documents (5 marks). Each of
these mark totals are assess in three bands: exceeded expectations, met expectations,
below expectations, not assessed or not submitted.

Hive Configuration
NOTE: the project management application used by students in MNGT-2/321 may change
from time-to-time. Therefore, your instructor has provided application-specific instructions
and assignment requirements, below.
Project Configuration in Hive
You are expected to accurately document your project in Hive, update the action status
and the schedule, and maximize the functionality of Hive. Maximizing functionality
means making full use of the items available in the edit project window and the action
window.
Project Description
In the edit project window in Hive, you must do the following: create project dates,
select a default view, select the sorting and grouping method for your actions, create at
least three project phases (you will assign actions to a phase in the action detail window),
and assign your team members to actions.
Work Breakdown Structure in Hive
Your work breakdown structure will be represented by actions in Hive and it will include at
least 50 actions (this may be a meaningful combination of actions and milestones) include
all fields available to users, except for those detailed below. Note: you must not use sub-
actions.
In the action detail window, you do not have to use the following: action labels, agile
sprints, agile action points, attachments, notes, comments, priorities, and mark as urgent.

The status of actions and all start and end dates must be accurately represented in Hive
with an estimated time for each action; you do not have to input the actual time it took
to complete that action.
Instructor assessment of your Hive Configuration
Your Hive configuration is based on two criteria:
1. How your Team maximized the functionality available in Hive which is based on
completion of the action details and project details windows (30 marks)
2. The relevance and meaningfulness of your entries into the action and project details
(30 marks)
To assess the criteria above, your instructor reviews all required parameters located in the
project detail and action detail windows.
Below is a screenshot showing where to find the action and edit project windows in Hive.
