William Morris

Family
William Morris ( 1834-1896) was born to his father William Morris and
his mother Emma Shelton Morris .He was born into the more wealthy
side of the middle class and had two older sisters called Henrietta and
Emma. He also has an older brother however he only lived for 4 days. He
then got married to his wife Jane Burden in 1858.
Career
William Morris was a textile designer, poet, translator and a social actavist
.His career started when he wanted a new house which is commonly known
amongst his fans as his first ever commision. It was a collaboration with
Phillip Webb and Morris designed the whole interior with some of his first
wallpapers.
Inspiration & Facts
William Morris was inspired by greenery, flowers, wildlife which falls under the the broad title
of nature which you can see through most of his works ,such as his piece "Strawberry Theif".
His works also started the Arts and Crafts movements which is still seen today. Many artists
still follow his symetrical style and exactness as well as the movement still being very much
alive today.

Art Nouveau
History & Facts
Art Nouveau is an international style of art and architecture. The term
Art Nouveau was first used in the 1800s in the Belgian journal L'Art
Moderne. The art style flourished between 1890 and 1910 in Europe.
Art
The general theme or themes of Art Nouveau are curves, asymmetrical
forms and intense colours. Its aesthetic has also appeared in various
media (decorative art) paintings, architecture and advertisements.

Furniture
Furniture created in the Art Nouveau style was prominent from the
beginning of the 1890s to the beginning of the First World War in 1914. It
characteristically used forms based on nature, such as vines, flowers and
water lilies, and featured curving and undulating lines, sometimes known as
the whiplash line, both in the form and the decoration.
