BINOYUGAN
Philippine Folk Dance
Binoyugan is a dance of the Ilocano region, Binoyugan comes from the Pangasinan word
“buyog” (big clay pot) used for boiling “camote” (sweet potatoes) or for fetching water from
the well. Binoyugan is a dance that shows women balancing the traditional banga or clay
pots on their heads. The dance is often performed during festivals and celebrations and is
considered to be a significant part of the cultural heritage of the region.
Binoyugan is performed by a group of women who wear colorful and vibrant costumes. The
dance itself is a combination of slow and fast movements that require a high level of
coordination and skill. The dancers move in a circular formation, with each step and
movement carefully choreographed to tell a story or convey a message.
The dance is characterized by intricate footwork and graceful arm movements. The dance is
said to be inspired by the movements of birds.
