B. Presentation
Input Devices - Accepts data and instructions from the user or from another
computer system

Two types of Input devices

1. Keyboard Entry- Data is entered through a keyboard into the computer.
2. Direct Entry - A form of input that does not require data to be keyed by someone sitting at
a keyboard. Direct-entry devices create machine-readable data on paper, or magnetic
media, or feed it directly into the computer’s CPU

Three Categories of Direct Entry Devices

1. Pointing Devices- An input device used on the screen to move the pointer (cursor). Examples are
mouse, touch screen, light pen, and digitizer tablet.
2. Scanning Devices-A device capable of reading paper-printed text or diagrams and converting the
information into a form that the user can use. Examples are image scanner and bar code reader.
3. Voice- Input Devices- Audio input devices also known as voice or speech recognition systems
that allow a user to send audio signals to a computer for processing, recording, or executing
commands. Audio input devices like microphones allow users to speak to the machine to record a
voice message or navigate applications.

Output Devices- Any computer hardware component that shows results after the computer
processes the input data entered.

1. Computer Display Monitor- Using text and graphics, it displays information

in visual form. The part of the monitor showing the information is called the terminal
for screen or video display.
2. LCD Projectors- Utilize two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal solution
between them. The electrical current that passes through the liquid aligns the
crystals so that light cannot pass through them.
3. Smart Board- A type of display board with a touch-sensitive, transparent panel
that covers the board, like a touch screen.
4. Printer- A tool which prints text or images on paper. The five types of printer are:
1. Inkjet or Bubble-Jet printer,
2. Laser printer,
3. LCD and LED printer,
4. Line printer, and
5. Thermal printer.
5. Speakers- Used to play sound. These can be built into the system unit or
attached to cables. Speakers let you hear music from your machine and
hear sound effects.

C. Application

output devices
