Mindset
WHY IT MATTERS:
Mindsets set the stage for learning and performance. If we can set the foundation for a strong mindset,
new hires will have a stronger, better chance at engaging in the company and with their work.

An onboarding program should make new hires feel confident

that their decision to join your company was the right one.

COMMON MISTAKES/CHALLENGES:
• Information overload
• Being pulled out of onboarding too early

SETTING THE RIGHT MINDSET:
At education startup RemindIQ, they add a few special touches to reinforce a positive mindset.

• Start on a Sweet Note: Send personalized notebook cookies reflective of a school item
that their office manager found on Etsy.

• Focus on Support: Provide a manager "How to work with me guides" and send a team onboarding
guide before arrival - with info about buddies, team norms, 30/60/90 day plan, etc.

• Extend the Welcome to be Inclusive: New hires attend a Belonging101 session to ensure all
employees can talk about their identities, how they can be allies to others, and their responsibility
in building inclusion in the community.
