Introductory Academic Program

Reflection

In pursuant to the Memorandum No. 1-09-17 – OVCAA “To monitor attendance and to
ensure active participation among students in viewing the streaming of the Introductory
Academic Program (IAP) via Facebook live for the Opening Ceremony on September 13, 2021
and MSU Youtube channel on September 14 to 17, 2021 for the series of lectures, all the faculty
members who handle the basic/service courses are enjoined to require, sophomore and
transferee students (including all freshmen and sophomore Technology students) to submit a
short evaluation/reflection on said program to be embedded as one of the activities/classworks of
the course”.
The Introductory Academic Program was a success by the help of the master of the
ceremony, Prof. Sharifa Sittie Zehainie M. Jali-Kabirun. On the first day, the program started
with an invocation and it was then followed by singing of the National Anthem and the
University Hymn. The said program was then officially opened by Atty. Alizedney M.
Ditucalan. He discussed about the purpose of IAP. After that, it was then followed by the MSU
System President Dr. Habib W. Macaayong’s inspirational message which was comprised of the
improvements of MSU in terms of both Systematical development and Quality education. Then,
MSU Officials was then introduced. A pair of CBAA students then presented a virtual campus
tour. Dr. Juhary B. Pangandaman, the director of Division of Student Affairs then proceeded to
state the function of DSA. Following it was the functions and services by the Office of the
Registrar by Dr. Ansano Ampog. Dr. Minervah-Saminah Naga, director of Admissions, then
described the various admissions process and how are MSU Scholarships are handled. The
program was then officially closed by Dr. Alyanah G. Pantao. The 1 st day of IAP is basically a
student handbook which is very helpful as it provided such information for the MSU students.

The second day of IAP consisted of three different lectures. The first lecture was
delivered by Elin Anisha Guro which started on the MSU Library Services. She warmly
welcomed us and gave us virtual tour inside the main library. The 2nd lecture was all about the
different google apps that are to be used in online learning. Information on how to use these
different apps was discussed by sir Azreen Marohomsalic, a licensed Electronic Engineer. Then,
the 3rd and last lecture on this day was about the importance of the Media and Information
Literacy to the MSU student, instructors and the system itself. The lecture was very informative.
Overall, the 2nd day of IAP was a fun ride with so much information acquired.
The third day of IAP elaborately discussed topics such as rules and norms for interacting
with others in the internet, applying computational analysis using a statistical software, and
research agenda and ethics. The first topic was discussed by Prof. Jasmine Mama who gave
further tips on how students should interact with others on the internet. Furthermore, the
discussion also gave situations that we should avoid while interacting with someone online. The
second topic was brought to us by Prof. Emma Perez who elaborated to us how we can compute
our analysis using a statistical software. The third topic talked about Research agenda and Ethics
that was discussed by Prof. Teresita Ong Poblete. The third day of IAP helped us gain more
knowledge that can be useful to us when conducting our research in the future.
The fourth day of IAP tackled about the topic of Responsible Research Writing and how
students can provide a good research /thesis. The topic was elaborated by Sir Jerryk Alico and
provided us an idea on how a good research should be. I believe that it was helpful because it
will help us when writing our research. The next lecture was all about Grammar review and was
discussed by Prof. Anikah Alonto. The third topic was entitled “Mga hakbang at kasanayan
paggawa ng pananaliksik at barirala”that was discussed by Prof. Shiela Enopia. On this day, we
learned a lot on improving our grammar skills and writing skills in a simple way .
The last day of IAP provided an opening performance by the MSU Cultural Dance Group
that was eye-catching. Then sir Nico Caballes shared some tips on how to handle the new normal
which is very relevant. It was then followed by the Holy Grail of quest that was delivered by Dr.
Rebekah Alawi. After that, Pro. Maria Junnah A. Liguid took after to discuss on how to look
after the mental health of the students. The closing program was brought by the Vice President
for Academic Affairs Dr. Alma Berowa where she expresses on how thankful she is to the
students for watching the five-day program.
With so much have been said, I want to say that Introductory Academic Program helps
the students to know the rules and standards of MSU. As a fellow MSUan , we should now
pursue and mandate the standards and rules not only in academic excellence but also in helping
in the development of our society through integration, collaboration, and peace building.
