1. Find the angle between the body diagonals of a cube.

2. (a) Find the separation vectorr from the source point (2, 8, 7) to the field point (4, 6, 8).
(b) Determine it’s magnitude (r ) and construct the unit vector r̂ .

3. Find the gradients of the following functions:

(a) f1 (x, y, z) = x2 + y 3 + z 4
(b) f2 (x, y, x) = x2 y 2 z 4
(c) f3 (x, y, z) = ex sin(y) ln(z)

(d) f4 (x, y, z) = rn , where r = x2 + y 2 + z 2

* 4. The height of a certain hill is given by

h(x, y) = 10(2xy − 3x2 − 4y 2 − 18x + 28y + 12)

Where y is the distance (in miles) north, x is the distance east of Guwahati.

(a) Where is the top of the hill located?

(b) How high is the hill?
(c) How steep is the slope (in feet per mile) at a point 1 mile north and 1 mile east of
the Guwahati? In which direction is the slope steepest at that point?

6. Prove the following product rules:

(a) ∇(f g) = f ∇g + g∇f

(b) ∇.(A × B) = B · (∇ × A) − A · (∇ × B)
(c) ∇ × (f A) = f (∇ × a) − A × (∇f )

7. Test Stokes’ theorem for the function v = (xy)x̂ + (2yz)ŷ + (3xz)ẑ, using
the triangular shaded area of the figure.

8. Let F1 = x2 ẑ and F2 = xx̂ + y ŷ + z ẑ.
