Solid Waste Management

Introduction
Brgy. Pansol is one of the barangay of Padre Garcia which is surrounded by rivers;
however as time goes by these rivers were being contaminated by different kinds of waste. One
of the waste or pollutant are the solid waste. Useless, Unwanted and discarded material from
our day to day activities in the community is defined as Solid waste. Solid waste can create a
significant health problem and a very unpleasant living environment if not disposed of safely and
appropriately. If not correctly disposed of, waste may provide breeding sites for insect- vectors,
pests, snakes and rats that can increase the likelihood of disease transmission. It may also
pollute water resources and environment.

Issue
Most of us have already read the effect of improper waste disposal and its effect on our
environment. However, despite our best efforts the damage of improper waste disposal has
continued, only at a different rate. Negative effects of improper waste management not only end
in an awful view but also affects our environment. Some of the catastrophic effects of today’s
poor waste management are soil contamination, water contamination, climate contamination, air
contamination and harm towards animal and even humans. Contamination results when a
hazardous substance is spilled into our environment. Plants in contaminated environment
absorbs hazardous substance. Humans or animals ingest these plants may get sick, they can
also inhale soil and air contamination through dust present in the air or absorb these hazardous
chemicals through their skin.

Project Proposal
In order to improve the deteriorating environment, below are the proposed strategies and
project to be conducted:
a. Implementation of Recycling and Reuse Activity. Eliminate solid waste as much a
possible to lessen the probable cause of contamination.
b. Waste Segregation. A waste segregation program should be implemented to easily
identify the waste that can still be used, still that is subject for recycling and reuse and
that can be utilized as compost or fertilizers.
