BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The background of the study of “Evaluating Online Learning Platforms’ Efficacy on Student’s

Engagement and Learning Outcomes” stems from the increased use and popularity of online

learning in recent years. With the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic still echoing, many people

still prefer online education even after the pandemic has ended. Couple this situation with the

rise of digital technology, and it results in the best situation to use Online Learning Platforms.

However, the effectiveness of online learning platforms in improving student engagement and

learning outcomes remains a topic of debate and research. While some studies suggest that

online learning can be as effective as traditional classroom-based learning, others have raised

concerns about the quality and credibility of online education.

As a result, there is a need to evaluate the effectiveness of these platforms in improving student

engagement and learning outcomes, particularly in comparison to traditional in-person

instruction. This is especially important because of the potential of online learning to widen

existing educational disparities and inequalities. Such an assessment can provide valuable

insights into the strengths and limitations of different online learning platforms, and help

educators and policymakers make informed decisions about the design and delivery of online

education.
The study of assessing the effectiveness of online learning platforms aims to provide insights

into the effectiveness of various online learning platforms and how they impact student

engagement and learning outcomes. This study can help identify best practices for designing and

delivering online courses, as well as highlight areas for improvement in existing online learning

platforms. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that online learning platforms are effective tools for

delivering quality education and promoting student success.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The COVID-19 Pandemic has forced many institutions to adopt online learning platforms as a

method to provide course contents to students. Although some of the advantages of these

platforms such as flexibility and convenience have been identified, there is a lack of research on

their effectiveness in promoting student engagement and student learning outcomes compared to

traditional classroom settings. The factors that dictate their success or failure still need to be

identified. This study aims to address these gaps by assessing the effectiveness of online learning

platforms in promoting student engagement and student learning outcomes compared to

traditional classroom settings and identifying the key factors that contribute to their success or

failure.
The research guide questions are:

1. What are the key factors that influence the effectiveness of online learning platforms?

2. How effective are online learning platforms in promoting student engagement and improving

learning outcomes compared to traditional classroom settings?

3. How can student engagement and learning outcomes be measured and assessed in online

learning environments?

HYPOTHESIS

Online learning environments may increase student engagement and learning, as more and more

data suggests. The platform's quality, the subject matter, your motivation, and the lecturers' level

of support might all play a role in whether you succeed or fail.

The independence and flexibility that online learning offers students is one of its nicer aspects. If

you're a student who has a lot on your chest or such as employment or family responsibilities,

this might be quite useful. When taking online classes, you may go at your own pace. This is

helpful since every individual learns differently.

Features like quizzes, simulations, and discussion boards on websites for online learning may

motivate students to engage more. Using these interesting tools, which also provide immediate
feedback, students may check to see whether they understand everything and pinpoint areas

where they need further help.

Online learning may sometimes be difficult. For instance, if you aren't in a typical classroom, it

could be challenging to stay motivated and feel connected to your classmates and lecturers. Kids

who seek a reliable tech connection or internet connection may also face challenges.

Using online learning platforms might help you study more efficiently and keep your interest,

but there are a lot of things to consider. In order to fully comprehend how these platforms work

and address any potential issues, we basically need to do more research.

SCOPE AND DELIMINATIONS

The study on assessing the effectiveness of online learning platforms on student engagement and

students' learning outcomes has several scope and delimitations that need to be considered.
The scope of the study refers to the range of topics that will be covered. For this study, the scope

will focus on the assessment of the effectiveness of online learning platforms in terms of student

engagement and learning outcomes. The study will examine different types of learning

platforms and compare their effectiveness in promoting student engagement and improving

learning outcomes. The study will also investigate their influential factors in online learning

environments.

The study would be restricted to the usage of online learning platforms solely, excluding other

types of education. Additionally, the study would only include a selected group of students, such

as those enrolled in higher education or those studying a certain subject. The efficiency of the

course or curriculum as a whole would not be evaluated; rather, the effectiveness of the online

learning platform would only be evaluated. Last but not least, the study would be restricted to the

setting of a certain academic institution or a particular geographic region.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The research opens the door for educators to understand the effectiveness of online learning

environments. In order to improve the quality of education offered by an online learning


platform, it is essential to assess the effectiveness of the platform. The study will highlight the

platform's strengths and flaws. Arguably, the most important aspect of successful student

instruction is assessment. Using formative and summative assessment techniques, instructors

may pinpoint where students need more practice with topics and highlight areas where they are

excelling and should use enrichment activities. Additionally, it can support ensuring that children

receive a high-quality education that satisfies their needs.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
1. Online Learning Platforms- is a space or portal filled with educational content and/or live

instruction on a particular subject or many different topics.

2. Efficacy- the ability, especially of a medicine or a method of achieving something,

to produce the intended result

3. Student engagement-refers to the active participation of students in various activities that lead

to quality learning. 

4. Learning outcomes-are descriptions of the specific knowledge, skills, or

expertise that the learner will get from a learning activity, such as a training

session, seminar, course, or program.

5. Evaluation- the process of judging or calculating the quality, importance, amount,

or value of something
