The first year of operation of Suzano Pulp Mill in

Abstract
The Imperatriz Suzano pulp mill was started in December 2013. This presentation will discuss the
manly experiences during the first year of operation and the general impact in Suzano´s Group production.
The Imperatriz Suzano pulp mill is one of the most modern pulp mills in the world, which produces 1,5
million tons/y of fully bleached eucalyptus Market pulp. It is also one of the biggest single line pulp mills ever
built.
The wood, which feeds the mill comes from three different plantation areas.The major one surrounds
Impertriz mill and was acquired from Vale. The second one is located in the South of Maranhão state and
the third one is placed in the South of Para state. The total planted area is 170.000 ha which represents
70% of the mill demand and the forwarders are responsible for the rest of the total demand.
The fiberline process starts with three chippers lines, a stack/reclaimer and four screeners. Digestor is
a Compact Cooking Processes followed by screening and washing with Twin Roll presses. In sequence,
Oxigen delignification ocurrs in the single reactor and the pulp is bleached to the full Market pulp brightness
of 90% ISO by using the sequence DHOT-EP-D-P.
Due to reliability reasons there were installed two drying machines with duo formers, presses and air
borne dryers. It moves forward towards five bailing lines and three unitizes produce 5000 t/d of market
pulp.
The recovery process starts up with black liquor evaporation with six effects reaching the dissolved
solids concentration of 80%. The recovery boiler has the combustion capacity of 7.000 ton solids/d and
steam values are 92 bar (g) and 492oC. The Power boiler is biomass fed and its capacity is 120 t/h.
Furthermore two steam turbines, one backpressure and one with condensing tail compose power
generation complex.
During the first year of production, the Imperatriz plant has already produced important gains for
Suzano Papel e Celulose, highlighting its low pulp production cost associated with high-energy efficiency. In
addition, the mill produces roughly 100 MWh of excess power.
In the presentation we will discuss deeper the results achieved during the first year of operation.
