Top 2023 Work Zones for St.
Louis Region

1. I-44 bridge rehabilitation – St. Louis County. This project
rehabilitates the two bridges over the Meramec River west of Lewis
Road. Drivers can expect shifted lanes as well as a ramp closure from
Lewis Road to westbound I-44. Should be complete in spring 2024
2. I-44 bridge replacement – St. Louis City. Replaces the Broadway
bridge over I-44 and the exit ramp from the I-70 express lanes onto the
Broadway bridge. Broadway over the interstate and the express lanes are
closed. Work continues through fall of 2023.
3. I-55 bridge improvements – St. Louis City and St. Louis County.
This project replaces or rehabilitates the driving surfaces on several
bridges along I-55 between I-44 and Lindbergh. Drivers will have two
northbound and two southbound lanes between Potomac and Pestalozzi
and between Weber and Virginia. The project continues through 2025.
4. I-55 from Route M to U.S. 67, U.S. 67 from Route 61 to Route CC,
and Route A from Collins Drive to Route 61/67 – Jefferson County.
New bridges, new traffic signals, additional lanes, resurfacing and
guardrail updates. Construction begins fall 2023.
5. I-70 Wentzville Parkway to Route Z- St. Charles County. Interstate
widening, curve improvements and railroad bridge replacement. Work
tentatively set to begin winter 2023 and ends fall 2025
6. I-70 from Fairgrounds to Cave Springs- St. Charles County.
Interchange and outer road improvements. Work began summer 2022 and
ends summer 2024.
7. I-170 – St. Louis County. Bridge rehabilitation at I-270.
8. I-170 – St. Louis County. Rehab and paint Midland/Lackland Bridges
over I-170. Construction anticipated to be completed by the end of 2023.
9. I-255 bridge rehabilitation – St. Louis County. Rehabilitates the
I-255 bridge across the Mississippi River (the Jefferson Barracks Bridge)
and rehabilitates the Koch Road bridge on the interstate. In April 2023,
the westbound I-255 bridge will be closed. One lane in each direction
will be closed, and the remaining two lanes of westbound traffic will be
shifted to the eastbound lanes of the I-255 bridge over the Mississippi
River. During this work, the ramp from westbound to Koch Road will be
closed. Should be complete in late 2023.
10. I-270 bridge rehabilitation – St. Louis County. This project
rehabilitates the ramp bridges at the I-270 and I-64 interchange. The
project starts in spring 2023 and should be complete by summer 2024.
11. I-270 – St. Louis County. Replace bridge approaches and
upgrade guardrails at Route 180 (St. Charles Rock Road) and drainage
improvements at Route 370. Completion is summer
12. I-270 – St. Louis County. I-270 North design-build project.
Roadway improvements from McDonnell to Bellefontaine. Reconstructs
eight interchanges, builds additional driving lanes in both directions,
improves accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists; constructs multi-
use paths on both sides of highway, updates and reconstructs outer road
systems, updates signals and improves bridge lighting and spacing.
13. I-270 bridge construction – St. Louis County. Illinois Department
of Transportation project. Constructs a new I-270 bridge across the
Mississippi River north of city of St. Louis. Construction on the new
bridge has begun, although initial traffic impacts should be minimal.
Drivers can expect narrowed and shifted lanes within that section.
Includes replacing the Riverview interchange at I-270. This is anticipated
to be completed by the end of 2026.
14. Route 21 between Route 141 and Schenk Road – Jefferson
County. Rehabilitates 17 bridges, makes pavement repairs and
resurfaces. Will require long-term lane closures during bridge
rehabilitation.
15. Route 30 over I-44—Franklin County. Replace bridge deck.
Requires full closure of Route 30 over I-44 and closure of all ramps from
Route 30 to I-44.
16. Route 30 bridge rehabilitation – St. Louis and Jefferson counties.
This project rehabilitates the bridge over the Meramec River. Should be
complete in late 2023.
17. Route 67 Elevation Project – St. Charles County. Elevation of
the southbound Route 67 lanes from one mile south of the Clark bridge.
Construction began summer 2021 and ends fall 2023.
18. Route 94, Route 364 and Muegge Road – St. Charles County.
Construct a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding additional
ramp connections. Resurfacing, and adding a lane on Route 94 in each
direction from Route 364 to I-70. Construction began winter 2021 and
ends summer 2023.
19. Route 141 – St. Louis County. Bridge replacements over Levee
District Lakes (between I-70 and Route 370). To be completed by the end
of 2023
20. Route HH over Calvey Creek – Jefferson County. Replace bridge
and resurfacing. Bridge is closed during construction.
