2.1 Unpack and inspect
Carefully remove all of the components from the packaging and verify them against the enclosed
packing list. Inspect all components for any obvious damage such as broken or loose parts. If you find
any components missing or damaged, notify your local Net SafetyTM representative or the factory
immediately.
2.2 Dimensions
The Net SafetyTM Millennium II transmitter enclosure is available in aluminum (A359) and stainless steel
(SS316). Dimensions are provided in inches and [millimeters].
2.3 Mount
Ensure transmitter and sensor are securely mounted as per local regulations. The transmitter has
mounting holes to allow mounting to a wall or pole as desired. Mounting kit hardware is required when

Ensure the orientation allows proper wiring and adequate wire length inside the transmitter enclosure.
When determining suitable enclosure orientation for specific applications, observe all local regulations
and guidelines for mounting enclosures.
Note: You can also rotate the electronics module to suit housing orientation.
Before wiring or rotating electronics, ensure that the power to transmitter is switched off. Do not open
the transmitter enclosure in a classified area.
Avoid touching electronic components, as they are susceptible to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Refer
to Section 8: for more information.
When the transmitter enclosure is mounted in different orientations (B, C, and D) as outlined in Figure
2-2, rotate the electronics module to ensure the operator can easily read the display. The electronics
module consists of the relay board, faceplate (Display/CPU assembly), and main terminal board. To
rotate the electronics module, follow these instructions:
3. Unscrew both the locking knobs and free from two metal standoffs.

2.4 Wiring
2.4.1 General requirements
Failure to follow these installation guidelines could result in death or serious injury. Ensure that only
qualified personnel perform the installation.
Electrical shock could cause death or serious injury. Use extreme caution when making contact with the
leads and terminals.
Do not open the transmitter, sensor, or junction box enclosure when in a classified area or when an
explosive atmosphere may be present unless the power to the transmitter has been removed.
Wiring codes and regulations may vary. Wiring must comply with all applicable regulations relating to
the installation of electrical equipment in a hazardous area and is the responsibility of the installer. If in
doubt, consult a qualified official before wiring the system.
When separating the sensor from the transmitter, Emerson highly recommends using a shielded cable
to meet electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements and to protect against interference caused
by extraneous electrical or electromagnetic noise. In applications where the wiring is installed in
conduit, do not use the conduit for wiring to other equipment.
If not using the 4-20 mA signal, connect a jumper between the 4-20 mA terminal and the common
terminal to allow analog current levels to be monitored at the test jacks on the faceplate.
For effective communication, Net SafetyTM limits sensor separation to 2,000 feet (600 meters) using 16
AWG wires.
Modbus® RS-485 connection 2-wire mode, multipoint serial line available. Up to 247 addresses are
allowed. When developing a RS-485 chain of devices, the last device in the chain requires an end of line
termination resistor (120 Ohms).

• Detection instruments
• Wiring
Net SafetyTM designs and manufactures its detection equipment under rigid quality control
management systems and makes every effort to design for the harshest of industrial environments.
The other components of the system (the customer-connected equipment and wiring) are also
important contributors to the overall quality and performance of the safety system.
It is important to implement wiring that ensures the reliability and integrity of the safety system. Field
wiring practices and the choice of cable type specified vary from project to project. Poor practices and
choices are often found to be the source of unwanted system disruptions. RFI and electromagnetic
interference (EMI) are usually very powerful disruptive forces in industrial facilities, and these forces act
upon the system through the wiring.
The cable used should be a very high quality instrument grade, certified for the application conditions,
consisting of a rugged protective outer jacket, an overall electrical shield of fine braided copper or
metallic foil, and internal pairs or triads of foil shielded copper wire of suitable gauge for the power
conducted over the specified length.
The shields must be electrically continuous from the instrument junction box through other junction
boxes and finally to the connected equipment. The shield must be connected to a suitable ground sink
as specified in the instrument manual in order to protect the system from electrical disturbances.
In general, do not run communication cables and power cables in parallel for any significant length and
do not put them in the same cable tray. Through inductance, high currents in power cables can induce
significant noise in communication cables running parallel alongside power cables.

2.4.7 Seals
Emerson recommends using seals to further protect the system against water ingression. Install
equipment according to applicable local electrical codes. Emerson especially recommends seals for
installations that use high-pressure or steam cleaning devices in proximity to the transmitter.
• Locate seals as close to the device as possible and not more than18 inches (46 cm) away.
• Explosionproof installations may require an additional seal where conduit enters a non-hazardous
area; ensure conformity with local wiring codes.
• When pouring a seal, use a fiber dam to ensure proper formation of the seal. Never pour seals at
temperatures below freezing.
• Strip back the jacket and shielding of the cable to permit the seal to form around the individual
wires. This will prevent air particles and water leakage through the inside of the shield and into the
enclosure.
• Emerson recommends using explosion-proof drains and conduit breathers. In some applications,
changes in temperature and barometric pressure can cause breathing, which allows moist air to
enter and circulate inside the conduit. Joints in the conduit system are seldom tight enough to
prevent this breathing
To set a non-isolated or isolated current output, simply move the jumpers/shorting jacks (JP3 and JP4)
to either the non-isolated or isolated current position. For non-isolated current output, ensure pins 3 &
2 at JP3 and JP4 location on the main terminal board are jumped (shorted). Factory standard models
ship with jumpers at JP3 and JP4 in the non-isolated current output position.
For isolated current output, pins 1 & 2 at JP3 & JP4 should be jumped (shorted). Note that JP3 is for
configuring channel 1, and JP4 is for configuring channel 2. Jumpers and pins are located next to the
power and 4-20 output terminals on the main terminal board. See Figure 2-5 for reference.

When sensors are being mounted remotely, consult the multipurpose junction box manual for wiring
instructions. Always ensure that the transmitter is supplying 10.5 - 32 Vdc across the sensor power
terminals (Vdc + and COM) of Net SafetyTM junction box (JB-MPD-A/S).
The maximum distance between the sensor and transmitter is limited by the resistance of the
connecting wiring, which is a function of the gauge of the wire being used. For effective
communication, Net Safety limits the separation distance between sensor and transmitter to 2,000 ft
(600 m) using 16 AWG wire. See Section 9 for information on typical wire gauge and resistance.

The Process Level Technology Mag-Gage® is a proven method to measure liquid levels.
The Mag-Gage® is one of the safest and most economical ways to measure and control
your level requirements. It can be installed on almost any shape, size or type of vessel
in the industry. In applications of extreme pressure, temperature, vibration and highly
corrosive or hazardous material the Mag-Gage® will perform where others fail.
Principles of Operation
The Chamber is constructed of non-magnetic materials, and process connections to
mate with those of the tank, vessel or other equipment where the level is to be measured.
The Float is engineered and located inside the Chamber. It is sized and weighed to the
specific gravity of the process fluid to be measured. The float contains a 360° Magnetic
Assembly which generates a strong uniform magnetic circuit. The magnetic Flux Lines
generated by the float interlocks with the indicator. The hermetically sealed Indicator, the
Wide Flag® or Wide Tracker® Style, contains its own magnetic assemblies which interlock
with the float through the Chamber, providing a strong and reliable design. As the Float
moves with the changes in the liquid level, the magnetic attraction between the Indicator
and Float will ensure that the Indicator will track the position of the float exactly and the
liquid level is measured precisely.

When designing the magnetic circuit between the float and indicator there are many
considerations other than just how strong the magnets are in the float. The Mag-Gage®
level gages have undergone extensive testing to produce a rigid and high performance
design. With a unique construction the indication performs under the most demanding
conditions such as high/low temperatures, vibrations, even schedule 160 chambers.
Our patented solid magnet Wide Flag® design not only provides highly visible indication
but provides a powerful connection with the float. The reliability and repeatability of the
Mag-Gage® float and indicator combination is unmatched.

CONEXIÓN DE DESAGÜE
OPCIONAL

Float-Operated Level Switches - Vertical
Operation
The float rides on the process liquid surface, precisely tracking liquid surface motion.
Floats are attached to a mechanical linkage. When rising liquid level meets the float,
buoyancy lifts the linkage and positions the attraction sleeve up in the enclosing
tube. Upward movement of the attraction sleeve positions it within the magnetic field
generated by the external magnet.
Magnetism pulls the external magnet in toward the attraction sleeve, and the external
magnet is tightly engaged against the enclosing tube actuating the switching element.
When liquid level falls, the attraction sleeve drops out of the magnetic field allowing the
float to pull the magnet away from the enclosing tube, deactuating the switch.
NOTE: Float-type level switches are generally able to be used in high-temperature
applications, and sometimes prove useful for close interface detection.
NOTE: Floats are able to operate up to three switching elements. Independent switching
levels can be obtained with tandem floats. Consult the factory for special float switching
arrangements.

up to three switching stages. Displacer controls operate under higher pressure conditions
than float-operated switches.

Deviating from any of these instructions may adversely affect operation
of the level switch by restricting liquid flow into the switch chamber. The
recommended dimensions allow adequate space for isolation valves,
pipe fittings and insulation. Structural support (not shown) must be
provided for level switch chambers.

Multiple Switch Chamber Installation
n The header pipe diameter for three (3) or four (4) chambers needs to be two times
the process connection diameter. For 1” (25mm) process connections, the pipe
header must be 2” (50mm) in diameter. This includes pipe connecting the header
to the process, fittings, valves and other pipe equipment installed as part of the
header piping. Headers should be arranged to use one elbow or tee to connect to
the process pipe or tank.
o Pipe connecting the header to individual chambers can be the same size as the
process connection on the switch chamber. Fittings and valve diameters must
also be equal to or greater than the process connection diameter. One elbow is
recommended to connect the level switch chamber to the header pipe.
p Install each chamber so that the actuate or deactuate point is at the desired process
liquid level. Refer to catalog for set point locations.
q Locate the header 8” to 16” (200mm to 400mm) away from the process tank.
r Locate switch chamber process connection 12” to 18” (300mm to 450mm) away
from the header pipe.
s Horizontal spacing of level switch chambers should be 6” to 12” (150mm to 300mm).

Ensure that the wiring conforms to all applicable local and national electrical codes and
install unit(s) according to relevant national and local safety codes.
Switch housing conduit connections may be rotated 360° by loosening the set screw
located under the housing base. Do not attempt to rotate without following this
instruction and loosening the set screw. Retighten the set screw after adjusting the
housing. Care must be taken in positioning the incoming wiring to ensure clearance
between the wiring and the switch housing.
Switch wiring should be brought through the conduit connection, under the baffle plate,
wrapped around the sealing tube and brought up to the proper terminal. All excess wire
should be cut off prior to stripping the wire to avoid interference with the action of the
switch mechanism or housing cover.
All housings must be properly “sealed” at the conduit connection to maintain the NEMA
classification.
Check the housing cover-to-base fit to ensure the gaskets are sealed properly.
NOTE: For ATEX or IEC Certified T6 and S3 Enclosures: Electrical conduit connection threads may
be of non-ISO thread form. Check the product certification nameplate for relevant thread form
information before attempting to connect to the electrical conduit connection. In the event a fitting
or adaptor is used, check the adaptor body for thread form information. The cable entry device
shall be certified under explosion protection type “d” for flameproof enclosures, suitable for the
conditions of use if correctly installed.
NOTE: For Product Utilizing a Hermetically Sealed Switch. If the unit is installed in a Class I, Div.
2 location, a conduit seal is not required per the National Electric Code (NEC) 501.5B.
NOTE: For Intrinsic Safety Certified T6 and S3 Enclosures, the parameters are as follows:
Ui = 30V Ii = 1A Ci = 0 Li = 0
NOTE: See Specific Condition of Use on page 14 regarding the marking of nameplates for
installation.

Preventive Maintenance
Periodic inspections are necessary to keep the switch in good working order. SOR recommends
a systematic program of preventive maintenance be implemented at the time of installation. The
following precautions are important and will help keep your switch in top operating condition.
Keep the switching mechanism clean. Never leave the cover off longer than absolutely
necessary. There is no need to lubricate any part of the switch.
Inspect switches and wiring monthly. Dry contact switches should be inspected for
excessive wear and misalignment. Pneumatic switch connections and tubing should be
inspected for cracks and air leakage. Repair or replace as required.

Serie 55
Conexiones:
Bridas ANSI / ASA tipo cara plana (FF),
