SCRIPT FOR AN EXHIBITION

(INTRODUCTION 10-15% OF YOUR SPEAKING TIME)

Good morning, my name is _____________________ and the
subject of my talk is: “CHESTNUTS CULTIVATION” AN EXCELLENT
OPTION AS A POTENTIAL INDUSTRY IN THE ÑUBLE REGION GIVEN
ITS CHARACTERISTICS AND YIELDS.
I am going to start by talking about the cultivation of chestnut
trees in recent years, which has shown remarkable growth in
Chile. Mainly the Province of Ñuble, continues to lead production,
the southern zone has great possibilities in this productive boom.
It is common to see huge chestnut trees, where small producers
collect their fruits to sell them in the domestic market and to
intermediaries for export.

(BODY 75% OF YOUR SPEAKING TIME)

Ñuble is not only the most suitable area according to the experts,
but it is also where the highest yields can be achieved, due to the
processes that the chestnut undergoes between flowering and the
fruit, since a very good level of pollination is achieved, and there
is a very suitable temperature. The fruit tree begins to bear after
five years, it is considered a species that should be promoted in
the region, to reach an attractive volume of chestnuts for
international buyers.
Now I would like to focus on some advantages for Chile as a
producer, and it is important to point out that we currently export
chestnuts to France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
Today, except for the Chilean area and around a thousand
hectares in Australia, there are no large plantations in the
southern hemisphere and most European orchards are affected by
aggressive pests and diseases.
Chile is considered to represent a great opportunity for the
cultivation of chestnut trees, since in the country there is no wood
fungus, which affects trees, nor the wasp or moths that attack
chestnut trees in Europe. Another opportunity for producers is
that the use of pesticides is not required, so they have lower
costs, without considering irrigation, facilities to be certified as
organic and obtain higher returns.

(CONCLUSION 10% OF YOUR SPEAKINGT TIME)

In conclusion, it can be said that the chestnut is a highly
demanded crop in the world, but with an increasingly restricted
supply in it traditional production centers in the hemisphere.
Thanks to their low production costs and limited agro climatic
risks, in recent years they have become an attractive option for
Chilean producers in the Ñuble region.
