COMPUTER 2
Course Title

The DigiTITANS program provides computer education, it gives to the learner’s experiences that
they can be proud of later in life. It equips them with the essential competencies, both in Microsoft
Course -based and open-source applications, that will make them more effective students in high school.
Description They gain practical know-how on productivity tools and discover pertinent facts and concepts that
give them a better grasp of ICT in general. It’s the DigiTITANS way of preparing and empowering
Filipino grade school students for success in a wholly ICT – dominated future.

Topic 1: All About Word
Learning Outcomes:
• Explain word processing concepts and features
• Identify the basic word processing terms

Word Processing
➢ Means using a computer to typed, edit,
and print text on paper.
➢ Word is turned into digital data by the
computer, and then the entire document
is saved in the hard disk.

BASIC WORD PROCESSING TOOLS


1. Copy
➢ It copies letters and other characters.
➢ Ctrl + c
2. Insert
➢ This places characters in between letters or words.
3. Delete
➢ This erases text and/or images.
➢ Ctrl + X
4. Cut and Paste
➢ Theses allow text and images to be “cut” and “pasted,” just like
on paper.
➢ Paste = ctrl + V

5. Find
➢ This is used to find words.
➢ Ctrl + f
6. Automatic Line Break
➢ Once the text reaches the end of a line, this moves the cursor to
the beginning of the next line.
7. Page Setup
➢ This changes page size, margins, and layout.
8. Print
➢ This prints what is typed on the screen onto paper.
➢ Ctrl + P
Text editors
- Simple word processors
Ex. Microsoft Notepad and Microsoft Wordpad

TOOLS FO FULL – FEATURE WORD PROCESSORS


1. File Manager
➢ This is used to copy, create, delete and rename files and/or
directories.
2. Text Editor
➢ This change text by deleting parts of it, typing over it, or
inserting more text.
3. Insert Graphics
➢ This pastes graphics like clip art or another file onto your page
4. Format
➢ This changes the look of the page by allowing you to insert
graphics and to change fonts and margins.
5. Spell Check
➢ This checks if the words in the document are correctly spelled.
➢ Those that are misspelled are highlighted with a wavy, red line.
6. Thesaurus
➢ This gives a list of words that have the same meaning and can
replace a selected word.
7. WYSIWYG
➢ This means “What You See Is What You Get.”
➢ What you see on the monitor is what you get on
paper.

- allows you to design books, newspapers, and magazines easily.

Microsoft Word
Is a very popular word
processor and it is very easy to
use.
It can be opened by clicking on
its icon found on the desktop.
you can also click on the Start
button, and select Word 2016

Creating a New Document


When you star Word 2016, an empty document is already open for you to
work on and save. A blinking bar marks where you can star typing.

You can also open a new document by


clicking on the New Blank Document
icon in the Quick Access Toolbar.

Editing Text
Text can be edited by using some shortcuts available on the keyboard:
Home
This moves the cursor to the beginning of a line.
End
This moves the cursor to the end of a line.
Ctrl + Home
This moves the cursor to the top of the entire document.
Ctrl + End
This moves the cursor to the end of the entire document.
Backspace
This erases the letter or character on the left of the cursor
Delete
This erases the letter or character on the right
Text can also be edited from the Home Ribbon.
The Home tab in Word 2016 is ready to be used for editing.

The Home tab includes the following:

Styles
❖ This shows the text style options.

Font
❖ This shows the text font options.

B. – this sets the text in boldface.


I – this italicizes the text, making it lean to the right.
U – this underlines the text.

Paragraph
❖ Among others, this has tools that move the entire body or text to the
left, right, or center.

Proofreading
o Process of checking misspelled words.
Grammatical errors
o Mistakes in how sentences are written, are
shown with a wavy, green underline.

Using the “Save As” Command


Do you want another copy of your document? You can use the Save As
command to do this. It can be found in the menu than drops from the File
tab.

The Save As will let you give a new filename to the document. You can
also choose the folder where you want it to be saved.

After entering the filename for you document, the “saved as” document is
stored in the computer. Using Save As a second time lets you change the
filename of the saved document.
Printing a Document
Two ways to print out a copy of your document using the Print
command.
1. Ctrl + p
2. Click on the Print option in the File menu. It also lets you change
settings before printing your document.
Closing a Document
A document that has been save or “saved as” after editing can
be closed safety.
To close a document, you can open the File tab, and then select Close
from the list of commands. Or, you can simply click on the X button at the
upper corner of the main menu.

Closing MS Word
Word can be closed by clicking on the X button on the upper right-hand
corner of the window. It can also be closed from the File tab, and then
selecting Close form the lists of commands.

Topic 3: A different Kind of Drawing
Learning Outcomes:
• Describe the Paint.NET graphical user interface

A Basic Graphics Program


A drawing can be made with a piece of
paper, a pencil, and an erase. A drawing can
also be made with a computer using a
graphics program.

Paint.NET is an example of a graphics program. It used to make simple


drawings.

Paint.NET is easy to use


because of its graphical
user interface (GUI). A
GUI uses icons that are
selected using the mouse.
These icons are simple and
easy to understand.

• Main Menu
- above the white window
• Tools Window
- At the left of the window. It contains the drawing icons.
• Colors Window
- at the bottom of the window
- this is where the colors of a drawing are picked.
• File Menu
- this is where you can choose to create, open, save, or print a
document.
• Edit Menu
- these tools used to erase, cut and paste objects or a drawing.
• View Menu
- it changes the look of the program on the screen.
• Image Menu
- allows you to change the size of a picture.
• Help Menu
- it gives tips on how to use Paint.NET.
