Part A

Case 1: Plagiarism
I. Article: UP student plagiarizes prize-winning
photos https://r3.rappler.com/move-ph/39566-
up-student-admits-plagiarized-photos
II. Questions:
• In what competition did Solis send in his plagiarized work?
- Solis entered his plagiarized work in a number of competitions, including the Smiles for the
World photo contest, the United Nations International Year of Water Cooperation contest, the
Children At Risk Foundation Flickr album, the Papworth Trust photo competition, and three
sustainable development photo contests hosted by VinylPlus, a European Union company.
• What sanctions did he receive from the organizing committee? Describe his actions.
- Although the story does not specify how Solis would be punished, we might presume that his
reward has been rescinded. He was also criticized by people online when the original owner
discovered what he did.
• Do you think technology and the internet have made plagiarism easier? Do you think technology
has made people more or less creative? Explain your answer by citing examples.
- Yes, because we could nearly do everything with the internet and technology because
information can be found on the internet. Solis' copied work, which was utilized in Multiple
Competitions, is one example of this.
- However, this does not imply that it has made people less creative, because the internet
provides a wealth of instructions and advice that encourages us to pursue our goals. This
article is an example of how we might find inspiration on the internet.
Case 2: Cyber Bullying
I. Article: Carabuena: From bully to cyberbullying
victim https://news.abs-
cbn.com/lifestyle/08/23/12/carabuena-bully-
cyberbullying-victim
II. Questions:
• Describe the acts of cyber bullying that the netizens did to Carabuena. Do you think their
actions are justifiable? Defend your answer.
- People built their own Facebook pages and profiles solely to mock Carabuena. Words like
"Patayin si Robert Blair Carabuena," "Like if you want Robert Blair Carabuena fired from Philip
Morris," "Ikaw na nga may pinagaralan ikaw pa walang modo, f*** you Robert Carabuena," and
"Ilechon si Robert Blair Carabuena" are very inappropriate. Their acts are unjustifiable since they
are cyberbullying a bully, which is still a crime and a bad habit. Although Carabuena should be
punished for his crimes, the actions of the netizens are similar to what Carabuena did to the
officer.
• How did the incident affect Carabuena’s life? Do you think technology and the Internet has
made bullying easier?
- This will have an impact on Carabuena's mindset, leading to psychological issues and a
lower social position.
- Technology and the internet have made cyberbullying much simpler because you never
know who is behind it, making it extra terrifying because there are fewer penalties.
• Give one suggestion to avoid cyber bullying. Give one suggestion to avoid being a cyber bully.
- A report can aid in the fight against cyberbullying. You should report the comment right away
so that cyber bullying can be reduced and the accounts used can be banned. Another tip is
to simply ignore the remarks and never do something that will harm your social media
reputation.
Case 3: Computer addiction
I. Article: “Four in ten teenage girls 'are addicted to internet: Youngsters increasingly showing
signs of compulsion with their tablets and smart phones”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2623903/Four-ten-teenage-girls-addicted-internet-
Youngsters-increasingly-showing-signs-compulsion-tablets-smart-phones.html
II. Questions:
• From the research, do boys and girls share the same Internet usage? Explain your answer. Cite
statistics or data.
- According to the data in the news article, girls are more addicted to the internet than boys,
with 46 percent vs 36 percent. According to Pew Research, girls are more likely to be hooked
than boys, with 64 percent of females being addicted compared to 55 percent of boys.

• Cite one real life example in your school or community of teenagers who have experienced
computer addiction. What happen them? Have they recovered from their addiction?
- I have a friend who had chosen to play videogames rather than staying in school to study.
No doubt that he was indeed good in playing MOBA games and he was enjoying it. He
became a streamer and also makes a living out of playing. He then overcame his addiction
and continued his studies while also streaming, but this time controlled and regulated by his
own time.

• Give two pieces of advice from Tablets for Schools to avoid computer addiction.

- Always manage your time wisely. Set a time whereas you are scheduled to play and always have
a mindset that a game is just a game. Sometimes, people are not fond of losing which results to
them wanting to play another game and the process goes on until it reaches addiction. Therefore,
create a playing schedule.
• - Choose your colleagues well and make sure you are on the same path. If you are playing with
computer addicts, you might as well end up like them. Therefore, be with someone who understands
the risks of computer addiction which can help you avoid this unfortunate certainty.
