Renewal of learner’s licences for autocycles and motorcycles

issued prior to 01 March 2018

Holders of learner’s licences for autocycles and motorcycles issued prior to 01 March
2018, are hereby informed that their learner’s licences have been automatically renewed and will
be valid till 01 March 2022, by virtue of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations of 2021.
The validity of these learner’s licences may further be extended to 01 March 2026 only upon
compliance to paragraph 2(i) below.

2. IMPORTANT

(i) It is only when the holders of the abovementioned category of learner’s licences will call
at the Traffic Branch to renew their learner’s licences that the validity date will be extended to
01 March 2026. They will be issued with a new driving licence card.

(ii) Those learner’s licences which are not renewed by 01 March 2022 will thereafter, no
longer be valid and if holders thereof, ride their autocycles/motorcycles, they will be liable to
prosecution for the offence of driving without licence.

3. Those failing to renew their learner’s licences by 01 March 2022 will have to make
a fresh application for a learner’s licence for autocycle or motorcycle, if they so wish, against
payment of the prescribed application fee of Rs 500.

4. The Traffic Branch has made arrangements to renew the abovementioned licences as
follows:

(i) Those residing in the districts of Pamplemousses, Port Louis, Black River and
Lower Plaine Wilhems will have to call at the Licensing Section, Traffic
Branch, Line Barracks, Port-Louis.

(ii) Those residing in the districts of Grand Port, Savanne and Upper Plaine Wilhems
will have to call at the Licensing Section, Les Casernes Driving Test Centre,
Curepipe.

(iii) Those residing in the districts of Moka, Flacq and Riviere Du Rempart will
have to call at the Licensing Section, Argy Driving Test Centre, Flacq.

(iv) Those residing in Rodrigues will have to call at the Licensing Unit, Port
Mathurin, Rodrigues.

The renewal counters of the aforesaid offices will be operational as from the 20th of
January 2021, between 0900 hrs to 1500 hrs on weekdays and between 0900 hrs to 1130 hrs on
Saturdays, except Sundays and Public Holidays.
 5. Persons concerned in Mauritius will have to call personally at the respective Licensing
Sections for the renewal of their learner’s licences on dates mentioned in Table A and those in
Rodrigues will have to do so at the Licensing Unit, Port Mathurin, Rodrigues on dates
mentioned in Table B.

7. This Police Communiqué does not concern learner’s licences for autocyles and
motorcycles issued on or after 01 March 2018.
