Assignment

1. Plot the thermal noise analysis with temperature (-10 to 100 degree
Celsius) for the circuit schematic in Fig 2.

Figure 10: The figure in figure 2

Figure 11: Noise of the figure 2 with respect to change in temperature

𝑣
As the temperature increases the noise increase. The maximum noise is 1.03 𝑥 10−17 at 100 𝑜𝐶 while the
√ℎ𝑧
𝑣
minimum noise is 7.266 𝑥 10−18 at -10 𝑜𝐶
√ℎ𝑧
2. Draw the circuit in Fig.5 and calculate the total RMS voltage noise (you can use the calculator for
integration)
a. From 1Hz to fo ; What is value, do it matches with theory? (Do the calculations using Noise
BW)
b. From 1Hz to 10fo; What is value, do it matches with theory? (Do the calculations using Noise
BW)

Figure 12: circuit schematic for this task

Figure 13: RMS values of noise

1
𝑓0 =
2𝜋𝑅𝐶
1
𝑓0 =
2 ∗ 𝜋 10000 ∗ 12 𝑥 10−12
𝑓0 = 1326963 𝐻𝑧
By hand calculation of noise:

𝑘𝑇
𝑉𝑟𝑚𝑠 = √
𝐶

300 ∗ 1.38 𝑥 10−23

𝑉𝑟𝑚𝑠 = √
10 𝑥 10−6

𝑉𝑟𝑚𝑠 = 20.3 𝑥 10−6 𝑣 2

The above plot shows the RMS noise values of the circuit once integrating from 1 to 𝑓0 and 2nd integrating from 0 to
10𝑓0. The value of RMS noise for 1 to 𝑓0 is 13.54 ∗ 10−6 while the value of RMS noise for 1 to 10𝑓0 is 19.8 ∗ 10−6.
The value of measured noise and calculated noise for 1 to 10𝑓0 is almost comparable while the value of measured
noise for 1 to 𝑓0 is not equal the reason behind it is that we are only calculating the value of noise for a limited
bandwidth while the noise bandwidth approach calculates noise for a wide band.

c. Now change the value of the R by 10 times and repeat part a and b.

𝑓0 =

𝑓0 = 132696 𝐻𝑧
By hand calculation of noise:

𝑘𝑇
𝑉𝑟𝑚𝑠 = √

300 ∗ 1.38 𝑥 10−23

𝑉𝑟𝑚𝑠 = √

𝑉𝑟𝑚𝑠 = 20.3 𝑥 10−6 𝑣 2

The result of the noise RMS is same because noise is dependent on capacitor only. So, the value of the resistor will
not affect on the value of RMS Noise.

Conclusion: In this lab we performed the noise analysis of matched resistors, mosfet, RC circuit and OPAMP.
Later in the assignment part the effect of temperature on noise was calculated and in the last part rms value
of noise was calculated of RC circuit. The dependence of noise on value of Resistor was also checked in the
last part.
