Platform Wars Simulation Reflection

The platform wars simulation are incredible management tools that offer dynamic

knowledge on strategies, management, and entrepreneurship in a competitive environment. In the

games, I realized that each simulation is designed to suit specific industries. For example, I

played simulations that capture competitive strategies in the gaming console industry. I realized

that management strategies vary across sectors. In a competitive market, the pricing behavior

determines the market share. I learned that a sustainable marketing and pricing behavior could

give me a competitive advantage in real life business situations. Apart from that, I realized that

each business strategy has its consequences. Therefore, it is important to critically analyze a

management decision before implementing to avoid suffering from negative results.

The platform wars simulations are not just mere games. I realized that they are important

tools for transforming theory into application. During my simulation activities, I made very

interesting revelations. I was using my knowledge acquired in the classroom and books to solve

real-life business challenges. Even though I failed in a large number of simulations, I came to

learn that these simulations were helping me become a better policy maker in the business world.

Also, I realized that the business world is dynamic and requires a person with problem-solving

skills.

The activities were teaching me about strategic approaches in management. The activities

were designed to give students first-hand knowledge on competitive strategies important for

managers (Sterman, 2010). Similarly, I gained knowledge on the significance of competitive

dynamics and cost structures in management as well as the role of externalities in business.

I enjoyed every bit of the simulations. First and foremost, the simulations are designed to

capture how the business environment operates. It was interesting to play the role of a manager

who had to make very important decisions on externalities, pricing, and strategic management

among others. I would recommend the platform wars simulations to business students especially

those interested in management.
