PROJECT TITLE
Does the tallest netball player always score the most goals?

INTRODUCTION
This topic idea arose from a heated discussion amongst a group of
girls who debated whether or not the tallest netball players score the
most goals in a netball game. We chose to explore this topic in hope
that through our experiment we can see if the statement, ‘the tallest
netball players score the most goals’ is true or false.

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION
The students in my group will ask six netball players, during their
training, to shoot 20 shots each. Each player will make 5 shots from 4
different spots and angles. We will be using a measuring tape to
measure the players’ height and cones to identify the location of the
four shooting spots. We will record the scores and calculate a shot
percentage for each player. This will then determine which player was
the best goal scorer. We will then be able to compare this finding to
their respective heights to determine if the tallest player did indeed
score the most goals.

PRESENTATION OF DATA
The table below shows the different heights of the 6 players.

The table below shows the amount of goals scored by each netball
player in different positions. Each player got 5 shots for each position.
As a result, there was a total of 120 shots made.

ANALYSIS OF DATA
The data obtained showed that the most goals were scored by Player
1, Player 4 and Player 6, while the least amount of goals were scored
by Player 5.
Given that Player 1, being the shortest player and Player 6, being the
tallest player, both scored an equal amount of goals this meant they
both shared the best scoring percentage of 50% for their differing
heights.
Furthermore, it can be observed that Player 1 and Player 2 who are
both of the same height had different scoring percentages of 50% and
35% respectively.
Therefore, it is evident that height is not the only factor to be
considered when discussing goal scoring success.

DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS
The data collected from the experiment revealed that while a player’s
height may indeed be a contributing factor to a player’s scoring
ability, it is not the only factor that determines a player’s scoring
success.
While it is quite possible for the tallest player to score the most goals
it is not factual to state that ‘the tallest players score the most goals’ as
our findings have shown, it is also possible for shorter players to have
the same scoring success.
Therefore, apart from a player’s height, their skill level and natural
ability should also be considered as contributing factors to their
scoring abilities.

CONCLUSION

Based on the evidence gathered we can now state, “The tallest netball
players do not always score more goals”.
