Procedures

Introduction

● “Today we are learning about what a seed needs to grow.”

Anticipatory Set/Activating Learning Strategies


● Talk with students about what plants need to grow
○ They should know that they need water, sunlight, oxygen, and soil
● Begin going through powerpoint slides as time allows:

Sequence of Lesson

Model
● We will do a nature walk in the courtyard and observe the plants
○ We will talk about this instead of writing it down to save time
● What structures do plants have in common?
● What does it take to be a plant?
● How much water does a seed need to grow?
● We will have soil and seeds and plant something together as a class.
Independent practice
● Students will plant their own plants in the soil we bring.
● We will talk about how we should care for the plants to keep them alive.

Closure/Summarizing Strategy

● We will go over their observations as a class.


Assessment/Evaluation
● I will assess students through their observations and discussion about our plants.

Special Considerations

Early Finishers

● If students finish early, they can go on reflex math on their Ipads.

● I will model how to plant the flower for the students.

● Students will use their knowledge of living things to understand how plants grow and
what they need to grow.

● Walk around helping students who may need extra support for the independent portion.
