1 Present Firstly, I voted “1.1” for the activity about choosing learning
(08/08/2022) strategy.
Next, I introduced myself with my teammates and wrote my
expectations for the course:
“Chào cô và các bạn. Em tên là Hồ Gia Khánh, chuyên ngành
Ngôn ngữ Anh K46. Em rất hy vọng khi đồng hành cùng với cô và
các bạn sẽ giúp cho khả năng tư duy về dịch thuật của em ngày càng
phát triển và tiến bộ, vì dịch thuật không phải là thế mạnh của em
nên em rất mong có được sự giúp đỡ của cô và mọi người ạ. Em cảm
ơn rất nhiều.”
Moreover, I also watched the comedy with the title “Đám cưới đầu
xuân” to figure out 4 types of translations.

- I wrote my feeling about the first week of this semester:
“In the first week of this semester, honestly I was still a bit at fault
because I still didn’t get used to getting up early and totally paying
attention to learn. However, I did some assignments my lecturers
gave me in order to review and perceive knowledge. Specifically in
this course, for homework, I watched a comedy named “Đám cưới
đầu xuân” for recognizing 4 different types of translating used
throughout. Additionally, in class, I did introduce myself with my
group’s member get to know each other. In my view, it was quite
gentle comparing to the whole term’s works.”

Vietnamese with my partner Chí Kiện:
“In the last thirty years a body of literature on translation
theory, strongly influenced by modern linguistics, has appeared to
support and give academic respectability to the new profession of the
nonliterary translator. Some of these books, notably written by West
or East Germans, have been too philosophical and abstract to relate
 at all closely to the translator's mundance problems. Some have
leaned towards contrastive linguistics. Others have tended to tie
translation too closely to a linguistic theory.”
 “Trong 30 năm qua, các tài liệu về lí thuyết dịch, chịu
ảnh hưởng bởi ngôn ngữ học hiện đại, đã xuất hiện để
hỗ trợ và tiếp thêm niềm tôn trọng học thuật đối với
những dịch giả không chuyên. Một trong số những tài
liệu ấy, đáng kể nhất là những quyển được viết bởi
những người ở Đông Đức và Tây Đức. Dường như quá
triết học và trừu tượng để có thể liên hệ một cách gần
gũi đến những vấn đề thực tế của dịch giả. Một số quyển
thì nghiêng về ngôn ngữ học tương phản. Và số còn lại
thì có xu hướng bó buộc việc dịch thuật với lý thuyết
ngôn ngữ.”

3 Present I wrote my reflection after reading my friends’:

(22/08/2022) “After reading my peers’ reflection, there are two things I have
learned from their reading. Firstly, we seemed to be over head and
ears in assignments, writing up, or even reading. Although it was
just the first week of this term, we all felt so energic and exciting.
Next, I learned how to arrange the schedule, the studying plan for a
week, month, or even a whole semester. This is pretty significant
because I am able to reflect it to my own and set my plan more
precisely.”

(24/10/2022) I re-translated my midterm text and posted it on Google docs:

“Sáng hôm sau, Mariam mặc một chiếc váy màu kem xõa dài đến
gối, và một chiếc khăn choàng hijab màu xanh lá trùm qua tóc. Cô
ấy hơi đắn đo vì chiếc khăn trùm đầu màu xanh chả ăn nhập gì với
chiếc váy cả. Nhưng mà cô ấy phải choàng nó vì lũ nhậy đã cắn
thủng vài lỗ trên chiếc màu trắng rồi.
Cô ấy xem đồng hồ. Đó là một món quà từ giáo sĩ Faizullah, một
chiếc đồng hồ lên dây cót cũ kỹ với số màu đen trên mặt đồng hồ
màu xanh bạc hà. Đồng hồ điểm chín giờ. Cô ấy tự hỏi rằng mẹ
Nana giờ đang ở đâu. Cố muốn đi ra ngoài tìm bà nhưng cô lại rất
lo sợ phải đối mặt với những ánh mắt đầy muộn phiền của mẹ. Nana
sẽ buộc tội cô ấy là bất hiếu và bà sẽ chế giễu những tham vọng sai
lầm của cô.
Mariam ngồi xuống cạnh dòng sông. Cô cố gắng giết thời gian bằng
cách vẽ đi vẽ lại hình con voi bằng một nét vẽ bằng cách bằng cha
Jalil đã dạy cho cô. Ngồi lâu làm người cô cứng đờ, nhưng cô chẳng
dám nằm xuống vì sợ rằng chiếc váy sẽ bị nhăn đi.
Nhưng cha cô chẳng hề xuất hiện, và sau hai tiếng đồng hồ, Mariam
quyết định quay trở về căn nhà đất kolba của mình.”
13 Present - I learned chapter 4 and did exercise C. I paraphrased and
(31/10/2022) translated the paragraph:

“When suitor’s relatives have finished bride negotiations

which are done at the bride’s home, they return home. Then
bride’s relatives appoint a day for the marriage. Then suitor’s
relatives prepare for the marriage ceremonies. Vietnamese
Trans: Sau khi họ hàng nhà trai đến nhà gái để
 làm lễ dạm hỏi, họ ra về. Trong khi nhà gái sẽ quyết định ngày
thành hôn, nhà trai sẽ chuẩn bị cho hôn lễ.”

- I also gave my reflection of that exercise. What I have learnt

about translation, esp when I translate implicit info. I posted

(14/11/2022) raised: “Why do people leave implicit?”, and my answer was:
“Because of three reasons: time-saving, share information, and
grammar allowance”
