The Hobbit is a classic fantasy novel by J.R.R. Tolkien.

It tells the story of a hobbit named Bilbo

Baggins who is whisked away on an adventure with a group of dwarves and the wizard Gandalf.
In the first twelve chapters of the novel, Bilbo is initially reluctant to join the group on their
quest to reclaim their stolen treasure from the dragon Smaug, but eventually agrees to
accompany them.
The adventure begins when Bilbo and the dwarves leave Bilbo's cozy hobbit hole and journey
through the Misty Mountains. Along the way, they are attacked by goblins and forced to take
refuge in a cave where they meet Gollum and his precious ring. Bilbo cleverly defeats Gollum in
a game of riddles and discovers the ring's power to make him invisible.
The group then emerges from the mountains and travels through the forest of Mirkwood,
where they face numerous challenges including giant spiders and hostile elves. Eventually, they
reach the Lonely Mountain where Smaug resides and plan their attack. In these first twelve
chapters, Bilbo's character undergoes significant development as he gains confidence and
becomes a valuable member of the group.
