Reflection 1 - I met with Mr. Langseth to discuss what I could possibly do over the summer. He
mentioned there were a few things I could do, but he typically takes the entire month of July off
to spend time with his family. He mentioned a lot about scheduling and preparations for the
upcoming year. No staff changes. No summer programs.

Reflection 2 - I created weekly staff schedules for the upcoming year. The staff rotates through a
number of different duties throughout the year. I needed to make sure no one was doubling up on
duties for a week. The potential duties include recess supervision, bus duty, cleaning the staff
lounge, etc.

Reflection 3 - The Teacher Handbook was intended to be a document where a new or seasoned
staff member could look to find all the information they needed. I worked on an updated layout
and added links for a more user-friendly feel. There were a number of elements that were out-
dated or needed to be fixed.

Reflection 4 - The Parent/Student Handbook is a document that is available through the school
website that parents and students sign at the beginning of the year that states they have read and
understand what is expected of them. I worked on updating the document for the following year
and improving the overall layout.

Reflection 5 - Mr. Langseth met with a few local construction companies to discuss some
building improvements that needed to happen over the summer. The bathrooms throughout the
school needed new plumbing and adjustments needed to be made for the hanging lights in each
teaching room.
Reflection 6 - Mrs. Honetschlager is now the current principal at Holy Redeemer School. Mr.
Langseth accepted a different position in Worthington, Minnesota. I assisted Mrs. Honetschlager
with planning on how the open house would look for this year. We created checklists for the staff
to look over and organized student planners.

Reflection 7 - I attended an EAC meeting after school. This is like a school board meeting. There
were parents, a few staff members, the principal and the priest. They discussed early year topics,
they planned for future upcoming events, and discussed Catholic Schools Week. I took notes and
talked with Mrs. Honetschlager afterwards about what I noticed. I have never been to an EAC
meeting before.

Reflection 8 - I was involved with a Catholic Schools Week meeting. Catholic Schools Week is
in January every year. This meeting was about potential committees and discussing a theme.
Catholic Schools Week is used to promote the school and gain potential new students. Families
who attend Holy Redeemer Church are sent letters that promote the school and offer a series of
school specific information.

Reflection 9 - I set up and organized a Suicide Prevention Training for the entire staff through
Western Mental Health. The staff needed training for our continuing ed hours. The training
would take place in a few months on a teacher inservice day. I called a number of local
businesses and Western Mental Health was the one that was able to fulfill our needs.

Reflection 10 - I presented at an EAC meeting about using novels in my classroom. I teach

English to fifth and sixth graders. I explained why I use novels and why I feel they benefit my
classroom and students. After presenting, I continued to take notes and talked with Mrs.
Honetschlager afterwards.

Reflection 11 - I helped proofread weekly newsletters sent to parents about anything regarding
our school, staff, students, and upcoming events. I did this weekly throughout the entire school
year. I would either receive an email and edit it that way or go to the principal’s office and read
over her shoulder. The weekly newsletter contains a lot of information about and gives parents
useful upcoming dates.

Reflection 12 - I worked with a few of my peers to develop how the staff would utilize
assessment information from NWEA. We distributed a survey to the staff about their
comprehension of the data after students had taken a NWEA test. We then took the data and
decided that a professional development opportunity from outside the school was necessary.
Our committee met once a month throughout the entire school year.

Reflection 13 - I helped organize and attended the Muffins for Moms event. It was before school
for students and their mom or grandma or aunt or any woman who was significant in their life.
We needed muffins and drinks. We had staff help distribute, greet, take pictures for social media
and clean up.

Reflection 14 - There was a meeting and follow up about Catholic Schools Week Preparation.
Teachers needed to know what committee they were on and what their expectations were. We
allowed staff to select their committee. I spent my time with the publicity group. Their
responsibilities were to contact the local radio station and newspaper about creating ads that
would be run during Catholic Schools Week.

Reflection 15 - I set up a CPR Training for the entire staff. I went through the local hospital and
requested that a professional would come to school on a Wednesday. This would allow for staff
to apply for recertification. Alvera, the local hospital, was easy to work with.

Reflection 16 - I continued to work with Mrs. Honetschlager on the weekly newsletter that is
sent out to parents and guardians. I helped with the sections on student of the week and
upcoming events that all parents needed to be aware of regarding holidays and NWEA testing.

Reflection 17 - Holy Redeemer has both a 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team. I was the
individual in charge for both games. I opened the locker room area for the teams. I got the
scoreboard prepared, opened the concession, paid the refs for their work, cleaned up, then locked
the building once everyone was out. It was pretty easy and I enjoyed my time there.

Reflection 18 - I attended and took notes at an EAC meeting. The talk was focused around
Catholic Schools Week. The band teacher told the group what happened on a daily basis in band
and how the students learned in his class. They talked about Thanksgiving activities happening at
the school and church. I met with Mrs. Honetschlager afterwards to talk about my observations.

Reflection 19 - One major aspect Mrs. Honetschlager is trying to improve this year is teacher
appreciation for the staff. So, I set up lunch through a local restaurant. I had the staff send me
their orders, I created a spreadsheet and delivered the sheet to the restaurant. I’ll pick up the
order when the day arrives.

Reflection 20 - Holy Redeemer has both a 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team. I was the
individual in charge for both games. I opened the locker room area for the teams. I got the
scoreboard prepared, opened the concession, paid the refs for their work, cleaned up, then locked
the building once everyone was out. It was pretty easy and I enjoyed my time there.

Reflection 21 - I attended and took notes at an EAC meeting. The talk was focused around
Catholic Schools Week. There were some discussions on snow removal during the mornings and
responsibilities for the janitorial staff. They talked about new policies that they might be looking
into for the following year. The policy was about tuition. They talked about Christmas activities
happening at the school and church. I met with Mrs. Honetschlager afterwards to talk about my
observations.

Reflection 22 - Holy Redeemer has both a 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team. I was the
individual in charge for both games. I opened the locker room area for the teams. I got the
scoreboard prepared, opened the concession, paid the refs for their work, cleaned up, then locked
the building once everyone was out. It was pretty easy and I enjoyed my time there.

Reflection 23 - I helped Mrs. Honetschlager prepare for an open house for Catholic Schools
Week. We walked around the building and made sure everyone was prepared. We printed out
informational sheets. And had material for parents to take regarding the school. Mrs.
Honetschlager talked about potential enrollment numbers for the following year and how that
data needs to be looked at.

Reflection 24 - I attended the open house for Catholic Schools Week. I greeted parents and
potential students. I gave a few tours around the school and pointed out significant locations and
highlighted aspects that make our school unique. I helped clean up as well.

Reflection 25 - The Parent/Student Handbook needed proofreading. As well as checking that all
of our policies were correctly stated and similar across all handbooks. I used Google Docs so
sharing the information between Mrs. Honestschlager and myself was easy. The document will
be shared with the students and parents next year at the beginning of the school year. We focused
on promoting the school the best way possible. We did some problem solving regarding how we
wanted extra duties assigned for the staff.

Reflection 26 - I helped with NWEA Results Analysis for the middle school. We looked at the
numbers across each grade and took time to document the high and low areas. We made note of
what changes we could make within the class to help improve in the lower areas. We figured out
that IXL can be used for a tool to practice skills for the NWEA Test.

Reflection 27 - I helped with NWEA Results Analysis for the elementary. We looked at the
numbers across each grade and took time to document the high and low areas. We made note of
what changes we could make within the class to help improve in the lower areas. We decided
that it was important to share this information with the teacher who would be teaching that group
of students the following year.

Reflection 28 - I created an end of the year cleaning assignment list. This is a list for the staff to
use to see what area of the building they would be responsible for cleaning. I got the locations
from Mrs. Honetschlager then had the grade level teachers paired up with one another. I simply
assigned the teaching pair to a location and shared the information with them.
Reflection 29 - I created an end of the year staff checklist for the staff to use. This list is where
the teachers would document all of the things they had in their classroom. The list will be
submitted before the teachers will leave for the summer. The checklist involved cleaning and
documenting what furniture and number of student desks were in the room.

Reflection 30 - I attended the meeting for Spring Fling. The meeting was about potential gift
ideas. The Spring Fling event brings in money for the school. The gift baskets are put on display
at events throughout the summer and guests have the option of placing bids on the item. Some of
the gift basket ideas were Movie Night, Backyard Games, Cooking with the Family, etc.

Reflection 31 - I walked around the building for an assessment with some of the parish
administration. The janitorial staff was present as well. The administration official walked
around the bathrooms and in the basement to seemingly do a quality check on the pipes and
everything. The decision was made to have a follow up assessment another time in the spring or
summer depending on scheduling.

Reflection 32 - I helped set up PERK for Quarter 3. PERK is an event for the students that HRS
does each quarter. We wanted to take the students bowling for this quarter. Tracy, Minnesota has
a bowling alley so we went there. I had to figure out the cost for students, busing, get a check
from the parish office, create student permission slips. Essentially, PERK turned into a field trip.
The 5th/6th grade would go in the morning. The 7th/8th would go in the afternoon.

Reflection 33 - I set up a Teacher Appreciation Meal. The date of the meal was decided by Mrs.
Honetschlager, I was in charge of getting the meal catered by a local restaurant. I needed to
figure out the cost and what sort of food the staff would enjoy. I created a form for staff to fill
out to get an idea of what I should request.

Reflection 34 - I listened and took notes on an income meeting with Mrs. Honetschlager and two
other men. They had a packet of information that documented how much money was coming and
going into specific departments. The packet of information showed two years into the past on
how much money was being allocated for specific departments. They were also talking about
budgets for departments. I was admittedly a bit overwhelmed with everything. But it was a good
experience.

Reflection 35 - I attended an IEP Meeting with a number of middle school staff members. There
was a student who was in need of extra services that the Marshall Middle School could provide.
The meeting was used to determine the specific needs of the student and what the public school
could do to help. We organized a time and passed that information along to the necessary people.
The parents were definitely on board with the decisions.
Reflection 36 - I attended an assessment meeting regarding NWEA results and scores. We
determined that it would be valuable to meet with other grade levels regarding groups of
students. For example, 4th grade teachers would meet with 5th grade teachers and the 4th grade
teachers would discuss what they noticed regarding results. We would like to do these meetings
either at the end of each year or the beginning. Mrs. Honetschlager needed to make a choice.

Reflection 37 - I helped Mrs. Honetschlager with the MNSAA - Annual Progress Report. She
asked for help in editing and making revisions. With a lot of the material, I had questions about
what the overall idea was. But I was useful for overall grammar correction, structure alignment
and making sure paragraphs flowed smoothly from one to another.

Reflection 38 - I helped Mrs. Honetschlager with the School Strategic Plan - MNSAA. I again
helped with editing and making revisions. I did a lot with grammar corrections, organization and
made sure paragraphs flowed smoothly from one to another.

Reflection 39 - I organized a teacher appreciation lunch for the staff. The main focus for this
lunch was ice cream based. So, I went through the local grocery store and got the prices for a
variety of different ice cream flavors with a multitude of toppings.

Reflection 40 - I sat in on and took notes for a budget meeting with Mrs. Honetschlager. She was
on a zoom call with parish administrators. They discussed what next year would look like in
regards to purchasing new technology. They discussed the student’s devices and how many
might possibly need to be replaced.

Reflection 41 - Mrs. Honetschlager showed me how she posts open job positions on EdPost. She
showed me the template she uses and who she needs to email regarding having the position be
visible for a duration of time. HRS needed to hire a new secretary for the upcoming school year.

Reflection 42 - I helped Mrs. Honetschlager come up with a series of potential questions to be

asked when interviewing candidates. We went online and found some general questions to ask as
well as some questions that were more specific for the exact position. We created a document
that we could print out that had space for the people who were interviewing someone could write
down notes if they wished.

Reflection 43 - I was given the opportunity to interview candidates for some of the available
positions at HRS. I asked questions, gave a tour, discussed my opinion and views on candidates
with other people involved. It was a really cool experience. I enjoyed the discussions that took
place once a candidate's interview was over. We needed to hire a full time science teacher.

Reflection 44 - I attended and helped chaperone and supervise Game On Nite after school. Game
On Night is an event involving games and snacks. Students attend for a few hours and play
games throughout the school. They typically play a hide and seek type game. We turn the lights
off in the hallways and kids will run around. Student council members organize the event and are
responsible for having certain students bring snacks and beverages. This event was for 5th/6th
grade students.

Reflection 45 - I helped Mrs. Honetschlager with the weekly newsletter. The newsletter is sent to
parents each week. For this particular newsletter, we had a bunch of information regarding the
preschool programs and summer programs available starting in June. We also provided
information regarding Spring Fling and tuition information.

Reflection 46 - I helped organize and attended the event called Donuts for Dads. It was held in
the morning before school. Students were encouraged to have their dad or father figure attend
this event. We got a couple of boxes of donuts from the local grocery store. We grabbed juice
and coffee too. I helped distribute the donuts, poured juice and coffee, helped clean up and
answered any questions.

Reflection 47 - I attended an EAC meeting after school. There were parents, a few staff
members, the principal and the priest. This meeting they discussed some end of the year topics
and summer activity opportunities. Something new with this meeting was about all the field trips
that each grade would be taking at the end of the year. There was also talk about enrollment
numbers and how to attract more potential students. There were discussions on potential
locations and costs. I took notes and talked with Mrs. Honetschlager afterwards about what I
noticed.

Reflection 48 - I was again given the opportunity to interview candidates for some of the
available positions at HRS. I asked questions, gave a tour, discussed my opinion and views on
candidates with other people involved. The experience was really enjoyable and I felt more
comfortable this time. I enjoyed the discussions that took place once a candidate's interview was
over. We needed to hire a full time secretary.

Reflection 49 - I posted an available position at HRS on EdPost. I used the template that Mrs.
Honetschlager uses. Her and I updated some information regarding the position to make the post
make more sense. HRS needed to hire a new 4th grade teacher for the upcoming school year.

Reflection 50 - I was again given the opportunity to interview candidates for some of the
available positions at HRS. I asked questions, gave a tour, discussed my opinion and views on
candidates with other people involved. I took the chance to look for a few art position specific
questions that I could bring to the interview. I liked being more prepared. The third time I have
done this was better than the previous two. I enjoyed the discussions that took place once a
candidate's interview was over. We needed to hire a full time art teacher.
Reflection 51 - I was given the opportunity to attend a principals convention with Mrs.
Honetschlager in New Ulm, Minnesota. They had meetings with an HR person from The
Diocese of New Ulm. There were also a lot of discussions about Catholic based standards. All of
the catholic schools were potentially going to align all of their standards together. Mrs.
Honetschlager mentioned how they have discussed this topic multiple times but nothing had got
done.

Reflection 52 - There was a meeting for the end of the year field trips. Each grade brought up
where they were planning on going for sure and the costs were discussed. The parish was going
to pay for some of the field trips, but students would be responsible for some portion of the
money. Some grades were going further than others. Busing costs were taken into consideration.
Some grades planned on going to places within walking distance of HRS.

Reflection 53 - I attended and helped chaperone and supervise Game On Nite after school. Game
On Night is an event involving games and snacks. Students attend for a few hours and play
games throughout the school. They typically play a hide and seek type game. We turn the lights
off in the hallways and kids will run around. Student council members organize the event and are
responsible for having certain students bring snacks and beverages. This event was for 7th/8th
grade students.

Reflection 54 - I created a Spring Fling Volunteer Sign Up Sheet. The Spring Fling has a variety
of different activities that need volunteers to run. Parents and staff are allowed to volunteer their
time. Some volunteer activities involve cleaning, distributing money, working on silent auction
items, general supervision and extra help. The sheet was distributed via email and information
for signing up was sent through the Sunday bulletin at church.

Reflection 55 - Most of the classes go on field trips at the end of the year. I helped with
organizing and creating student permission slips. We needed to figure out the costs to take the
students to the Twin Cities and Sioux Falls. I had to get checks approved and signed from the
parish office. The bus prices were more expensive because of higher gas prices compared to
other times throughout the year.

Reflection 56 - I helped on making changes to the handbooks at HRS. I worked on the

Parent/Student Handbook as well as the Teacher Handbook. Mrs. Honetschlager wanted each of
these to be fixed and updated. The current ones we have been using seemed outdated and was
sending misinformation. The plan is to continue working on these handbooks throughout the
spring and summer and have them fully prepared and completed by the fall.

Reflection 57 - I attended an EAC meeting after school. There were parents, a few staff
members, the principal and the priest. This meeting they discussed some end of the year topics
and summer activity opportunities and updating standards in the future. There were discussions
on ways to continually promote the school. There was talk of a family that potentially would
want to enroll next year. I took notes and talked with Mrs. Honetschlager afterwards about what I
noticed.

Reflection 58 - I helped Mrs. Honetschlager with the Camp Foley donations and costs. The 6th
graders at HRS attend Camp Foley near Nisswa, Minnesota each spring. There are donations
given to the school that go toward costs. The 6th graders also fundraise money throughout the
year. I helped her with scheduling too. Schedules needed to be updated and teachers needed to
cover for those teachers who will be attending Camp Foley as a chaperone.

Reflection 59 - The music and library standards needed to be updated. I helped find some
Catholic based standards for those two sections online and we adjusted them to fit what we
needed. I adjusted the organization and corrected any grammatical errors. I thought it was
interesting to see how the standards could be improved and made to fit what HRS provides.
