300 Hour Narrative

During the remainder of my time at Driscoll I continued with the same tasks such as

cleaning toys and equipment, treatment rooms, and keeping the hallways and walkways clear for

safety. Adding on I continued to be very involved with patients in the nicu, picu, cicu, in patient

care and outpatient care. I was so happy to learn that I made great relationships with many

patients and their families and when I wasn’t present, they would ask for me by name. While

overseeing hard treatments and diagnoses, I have maintained a calm demeanor and done my best

to be empathetic and relate to patients. I have had the most uplifting experience during my time

at Driscoll and learned so many new concepts pertaining to the world of Physical Therapy and

pediatric physical therapy.

During my 300 hour evaluation I received great feedback and a score of 53 out of 55. My

supervisor requested feedback from her team of physical therapists and gave me some of her

input as well. Many of the therapists including my supervisor noted that I was always on time,

dressed appropriately, and excited to see what the day held. It was also noted that I interacted

great with patients of all ages, picked appropriate toys and activities for different age groups,

shadowed many different care settings, and accepted criticism or guidance in a positive manner.

My time at Driscoll children’s hospital is something I will never forget. I had the best

opportunity to complete an internship there with some of the best health care professionals in all

of South Texas and I will cherish the time and memories I have from there. I had the privilege of

even being present during a promotional video while the zero gravity machine was in use by a

Driscoll Celebrity, John J who is a friend to everyone and knows no stranger. He told me he was

so thankful that I was able to be there to help him walk that day and encourage him. John J even
mentioned he wanted to be a physical therapist like the one he has and me so he can help kids

walk like how we helped him.

I had many wonderful experiences and relationships that blossomed with patients, their

families, physical therapists, rehabilitation staff in all departments, and hospital workers through

the whole facility. My strengths have been observed as empathetic, hardworking, punctual, neat,

resourceful, conscious to detail, great communicator, and a natural with children. In my future

endeavors on working to become a physical therapist some things that I can improve on include

time management skills such as balancing assignments, balancing school and work, and overall

study skills. Adding to that I will begin prepping for the GRE, and looking over my notebook

from my internship as a whole and research diagnoses to gain a better understanding of why

certain treatments were being exhibited.

I truly could not have imagined a better internship than the one I experienced and have

already told them to be expecting me back as soon as I graduate PT school.
