Center of Excellence for Gender Equality
Established in Seoul in 2022 with support from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family of the Republic of Korea, the UN Women
Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality (the Center) seeks to function as a ‘knowledge hub’ to facilitate research, education and
training, sharing of innovations and lessons learned, networking, and development of multi-stakeholder partnerships for the achievement
of gender equality in the Asia-Pacific region. The Centre aims to contribute to operationalizing normative frameworks on gender equality
and the empowerment of women, informing innovative approaches to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”),
transforming harmful social norms in the fast-changing and unique social landscape of Asia and the Pacific, and forging partnerships
across sectors. The Centre’s working language is English, and it offers an international working environment, while Korean language
skills are required for this particular consultancy, given the nature of the work involved.
In 2023, the Centre will implement its annual work plan with various training, research, and partnership-building activities. The Centre
embraces innovation, including as it relates to new technologies and partnerships, to increase the breadth and depth of its work, aligning
with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its transformative promise to leave no one behind. It plans to conduct UN
Women research and data analysis on all the relevant gender equality and empowerment of women thematic areas including Women,
Peace and Security, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Humanitarian Action & Disaster Risk Reduction, and Gender Statistics at
national, regional, and global levels. In this context, the Center is looking for a qualified national research and programme consultant who
will work closely with the Research and Data Specialist to provide technical support for the conduct of the gender research and data
analysis activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

 
1. Objective of the consultancy

The objective of the consultancy is to ensure that the research and data activities under the Centre’s annual work plan will be
implemented in high quality.
    2. Duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Research and Data Specialist, the consultant will perform multi-task, with practical skills with related gender
research and data analysis activities for UN Women. The consultant will provide support for quantitative and qualitative research,
production coordination and dissemination of the research endeavors in all thematic areas of gender equality. In addition, the consultant
will provide logistics supports in organizing international meetings which aim to share knowledge and best practices on innovative gender
research outcomes. The consultant needs to have good communications skills in both Korean and English, so as to provide research
support activities of the Center.
The consultant is working closely with the Research and Data Specialist and in close collaboration with other staff to provide support to
all aspects of the research and data analysis activities. The consultant must have an independent, problem-solving mindset, with
proactive attitude to overcome any operational challenges along the way, by working closely with all members of the Center.
The specific tasks of the consultant:
Prepare and deliver research programme activities such as writing concept notes, logistics notes, meeting reports and support
technical organization of Korea as well as international meetings on the priority research themes of the Centre such as femicide
and women and technology.
Perform data fact-checking for the various research activities undertaken by the Centre.
Conduct background research on and produce case study summaries.
Contribute to content development for the Centre’s knowledge products.
Coordinate the compilation of best practices of the gender policy and mainstreaming policies, legislation and implementation
strategies in the region including best practices from the Republic of Korea.
Support the development of reports on key learnings from the research activities of the Centre.
Participate in the staff meetings if needed.

3. Duration of assignment and duty station


Duration of Assignment: The tentative contractual period is from 1 April 2023 to 30 March 2024 with maximum 20 working days per
months.
Duty Station: The consultant is expected to come to the office four days per week and one day will be working from home. The
consultant may need to come to the meeting venue when the research activities are organized and attend meetings outside of the
Centre’s office if required to prepare for the activities. If there is requirement for travelling, the work-related travel of UN Women’s SSA
consultant is considered as official mission and will be arranged by UN Women in line with UN Women’s Travel Policy.
